umm, yeah

Gotta do the ring bit thing and the chain, but apart from that...

This key ring is based on a keyring I got in London a while back.

Anyway, I used Carm3D's technique of merging sub-div surfaces with un sub-div surfaces to do the object. It's mainly just a quick test on Carm3D's tutorial, but i thought i would post it anyway.

Here's a view of modeller.

As you can see the front/back surface is made up of one single non sub-div polygon. The rest is sub-divided.

Ok, ok....I know there's a bit of mesh trouble round the ring at the top, but I just couldn't be bothered to reduce the number of poly's! It doesn't add much to the render time, I have a fast enough PC.

Nicely done! Is that Corona specular bloom, or comp'ed in later? The only critique I can give is that on the keychain in the lower right corner - it looks kinda like you can see some poly edges around the lip of the top flat poly. Other than that, nice look to the metal.

thanks,

I added the bleaching effect in photoshop, something like Filter>Distort>Diffuse glow

Anyway, I thought I would write a little tutorial on that little technique, because it is incredibly useful, if thats ok with Carm3D. As it was his idea in the first place.
