Every time I shut down Tricaster, I lose my loaded transitions. All my other settings seem to be saving but the transitions.
I've also got some trouble with the first transition, which by default is supposed to be 'Fade.' I tried to rename this transition to 'dissolve', but in the process something went wrong so now the first transition block is gone completely. Instead of an icon, it's blacked out and you can't place a transition there anymore.
There is also a problem in that every time I load the 'Fade' transition instead of the actual transition name, it says "DVE Not in Database."
I've tried resetting configs and everything else resets, but the transition problems remain. Please help.

Have you reset the TC configs? It's on the Admin page.

Yeah, it resets everything else, but the transitions are still a mess.

This first one is pretty easy Derek. Some of the others may take some working out. First, get your working group of transitions like you want them. Then go to Admin with Ctrl+Alt+e. Restart TriCaster and the will all be as you left them. They will remain through shutdown, whatever, until you change a transition. Then you will need to repeat the same thing.
I've also got some trouble with the first transition, which by default is supposed to be 'Fade.' I tried to rename this transition to 'dissolve', but in the process something went wrong
How did you try to rename it? In windows? Can you find it and name it back? Which TriCaster? On the TriCaster Pro sitting beside me, the path is: C:\TriCaster\Effects\Transitions. Think that is same for original TriCaster.
If we don't get this here, you will need to tell me what you see at this level. I have many, many DVEs at this point and no idea how different it may be. Can you see the singular, your renamed, 'dissolve' .dve at this level? If so, name it back to 'Fade'. The naming convention should be '0000_Fade. dve', I imagine.
A check can be made from the hidden 'NewTek Info' folder. If you don't see that, do a show hidden files. You should see a 'Video Clip', and the thumbnail 'JPEG Image' with the same name there.
Just this might get it for you, but, lets skip to some of the other stuff you mention. If we don't get it from this, post feedback.

What you said there gives me a clue ('blacked out). If you haven't already observed, please remove another transition from the bin. Is that empty spot dark gray, and different from what is in the first position (black)? (BTW, it is possible that you would need to get this part fixed first.) Can you delete it? If so, then do 'Add' and drag the fixed version into this spot.
There is also a problem in that every time I load the 'Fade' transition instead of the actual transition name, it says "DVE Not in Database."
Don't worry much about this part. My TC and Pro (and VT) say the same thing here. In fact, I have other DVEs that say the same thing, but work fine. Someone that hasn't fiddled with about everything possible, like me, might let us know if theirs also says "DVE Not in Database."
If you get it back from this, let us know. If not, come back, answering my questions, and we will work on it some more.

It's an ascii text file, and you'll likely be able to figure out the formatting without much trouble. You can edit it to add details for unrecognized or custom DVE's (wise to make a backup copy first, of course.)
