I'm using the 64 bit version of 9.3 and I know some plugins won't work with it. I just tried to add TB_Untriple and LightWave told me "cannot load..." Does this mean that Untriple is one of those "won't work in 64 bit" plugins?

Phil, only 64bit plugins work with 64bit LW. If it doesn't say it is 64bit somewhere it isn't gonna be, sorry.
Looking at the TB_Untriple page it says for 6.5, 7, 8, 9 for Win32 so, yes, this is 32bit. Even if it doesn't say 32bit, it would be due to it's 6.5, 7, and 8 (as opposed to 8.5) compatiblity.
LScripts should be fine though.

Wow you're right A few others didn't work either. Had I known it was roughly all plugins from the past I may not have gone 64 bit. I really didn't want to install both versions of 9.3 on one computer but I guess I'll have to. That sucks.

Sorry, Phil :thumbsdow

Of course I still have the 32 bit one on my old computer, which I can access with Remote Desktop Connection. So there's always that option for some things.

i guess you can have both 64 and 32bit versions of lw on the same machine

I do on mine. 8.5, 9, 9.2 and 9.3, all both 32 & 64. Though I rarely touch 8.5
This is probably a stupid question, but will scene and object files saved from a 64 bit LW 9.3 open okay in Layout and Modeler 9.3, 32 bit?

Yes, as long as there's the RAM (and no 64-bit-only plugins).

I've never run into a problem having both 32bit and 64bit installed. I would prefer to use 64bit for everything but there are those few plugins that I need that don't work.

Yes life is good. I started using 64bit at work. Now I have hard time using just 32bit at home. My machine is perfectly capable of running 64bit I am just having a ridiculously hard time getting the machine to run with more then 2 gigs or ram. Da%$ Asus MB.

I use 64 and 32 bit XP
and even if you don't have more than 2 gig physical RAM you can use 64 bit lightwave and prime to render anything (without any memory limitation)
I also found that XP64 and XP32 don't swap in the same fashion... XP64 swaps on disk MUCH more efficiently than XP32 (don't ask me why... but i think it is another dev team altogether that did XP64)
so go 64 even with only 2 gigs you will see a difference and never run into memory problems in LW-fprime64
i have 4 gig but once i tested fprime 64 and rendered a 18000 by 18000 pix image (in xp32 i could only render 1280x 1024 on that scene!!!!). I was using 20 gig of ram (16 in swap space) and the CPUs (all 4 cores) where running at 100 % YEAH! WOOHOO
ok bak to werk

Ya know I was wondering about that. Even on a machine with 2 gigs of ram and 64 bit I got the impression that the 64 bit let me open and render larger files. I never did any real testing to see if this was the case but it looks like it might be. If that truly is the case I think it is about time to go buy XP 64. Or Vista.

XP64 is based on Windows 2003 Server x64, so it had better memory management anyway, due to the database driven apps it was meant for.
