Well here 't finally is, my little demoreel for this year.
I'm hoping to do some more projects during the course of this year and replacing some of the less enticing clips in it to a higher level.

I hope you like it, feedback is very welcome.

And because clips don't have images, I'm uploading a kitten! (yaay!)

Excellent, excellent camera work - really makes it all come to life. This reel has now become my new goal to reach for!

Fantastic.
The content and execution are superb.

There was a car turning a corner at 40 miles an hour and I wasn't sure about the dying guy on the bed but apart from that it's top notch.

What do you guys think is generally a good length for a demo reel?
On Archijam's suggestion I'd like to break up the animation with some of my better stills, but I'm afraid it'll get too long...

Iain, the car goes so fast because I doubled the speed of the clip :) It would've been so boring otherwise. Perhaps I should just get rid of that particular part?

very nice work. The only part that bugged me was the really stylized part with the curtains blowing in the wind and all the grainy stuff going on. It was cool for the first ten seconds or so but then it started to hurt my eyes.

I'd love to look at that but it crashes my explorer. Is there a directly link to the video without the flash interface?

It's not flash, it's quicktime. Perhaps it crashes your browser because it uses the new H.264 codec and you have an older version of quicktime? Just a thought... :)

The direct link to the video is here:

Dang. I updated quicktime. Same old crash. And the link doesn't seem to be connected to anything.

Must be just me. Something somewhere doesn't like QT. :(

Great work! We've done many demo reels for ourselves and others. The biggest note we get is put your best work in the beginning, which you've done. It's perfect length as long as there's nothing amateur in there. It all looks great to me. You MAY consider dropping the older stuff, flying around the city streets with the plane and moving cars. The stuff in the beginning is the most stunning. I personally like the sketch look and it shows your clients there are different styles available. Nice work!

Nice lighting and design.
Would prefer a slower push on the wire frames and perhaps dissolve to the rendered image during the push.
A tad bit long, 3 min is kinda pushing it.
Otherwise some really cool stuff, keep up the good work!

P.S. I like the building with the angled facade, your design?

Excellent work, Tom ! And the underlevel-museum piece is awesome.
Agree on "shorter" issue, i'd ripoff some things to make quality more concentrated.

Man is that boring, only buildings, buildings, buildings....... ;)

Great work Tom, i would agree to cut it a bit to 3 minutes. Maybe make the museum stuff a bit slower so its easier to follow, especially at higher resolutions.

BTW here is a nice but waaaay to long movie of the Falling water residence :

It's great, even the older renderings have been brought back to life ... already sent you my detailed comments ...
Could even be interesting to make a version (for the forums) where you label LW versions and renderer, I think alot was native lw, people would be surprised ...

ingo - That falling water clip was nicely executed but WAY too long (x4) and the construction ... I didn't get. Strange to go to all that effort and then just stretch volumes instead of use booleans, I had the feeling the building was made of rubber after that ... any idea what it was rendered in? I liked the sun effect, but the glow was way too strong at the end .. does LW have a vaseline filter for the new real world lenses ... ;) ?

What about that old windy field with tree vid you made, tom? I loved that one .. or the snowy view of the gallery ... so much great stuff to choose from! :D

It was modelled in Mødø and render in Electric Image.
