View Full Version : Hypervoxels Crashing

Every since installing 7.5b (and continuing with 7.5c) I've been having a problem with Hypervoxels. If I have a complex scene with more than, say, 100,000 hypervoxels, LW will crash during a render. I seem to remember doing much more complex scenes prior to the new patches with no problems at all.

Has anyone else encountered this is or is it just me? Any work arounds?

TIA!

Ryan

You could be running an older version of a component to Lightwave HV system. You have to check.

Thanks for the reply. I just checked and it seems that my Hypervoxels are running off of \\legacy_plugins\\layout\\hypervoxels.p. This file is reported as last modified in May when I installed the 7.5c update. What other components are there the check? The Hypervoxel panel shows that it is Version 3.0.

I wish I could get this sorted out. The project I'm working on now depends on large numbers of Hypervoxels and I'm currently dead in the water.

How far does it get durring the render?

It crashes before rendering a single pixel. Watching the Task Manager I can see the RAM use quickly ramp up over 1,300,000 MB during the "Sorting Polygons" phase, and then Lightwave crashes. My workstation has 2 GB of RAM so it should be able to handle large scenes.

Have you removed all elements of the scene minus the HV? Then try to render a frame.

The scene is 100% hypervoxels. There aren't any other elements to remove. :(

Are you using HV "Surface" mode?

HV "Surface" mode with 100,000 voxels creates an incredibly high number of polygons; maybe your own machine cannot put up with a such heavy duty.

As far as I can say... try using LW7.5 (plain, no b nor c) and let us know. ;)

Bye.
