Anyone know of plug to subdivide a quad into n x n segments?

e.g. Standard subdivide divides polys into 2 x 2 segments.

I'd like to be able to type in 4 x 6, or 20 x 30 etc.
Currently I'm using bansaw twice, but it's a fairly click-intensive tool. And I have to hide all other polys before running it.

I seen a plug on Flay that sounded close (Sean's Cutter), but it doesn't seem to be there anymore...

cheers

Not sure why would you want to divide poly to 30 but I guess its possible with Julienne. It's an odd plugin but it kinda does what you need :)

The purpose is for dividing building facades into manageable divisions, where I can start bevelling out some windows. Some modern architecture could have upto 30 rows of windows.

Julienne can behave badly, sometimes geometry needs to be removed to an empty layer before using it and again the operation has to be performed twice

Also subdivide will work on a poly no matter what rotation it has, julienne is axis dependent.

I'm thinking about modelling the building outlines with splines and using the spline patcher to punch in the n x n data...

anyone else tried this workflow?

Just start with an nxnxn face box.

trying to make non-organic objects as a contiguous skin is a bit of a timewaste IMHO.
Theyre made of blocks, so build them of blox.
If you have a repeating fenesttration/panel unit, and want detail, then model one and array it !

(spline ? building ? Gaudi ???)

I actually get the buildings surveyed, (I'm modelling existing streets of Dublin, Ireland) as I have a survey crew at my disposal.

When I import their data, I want to use as much of it as possible - for accuracy etc. as a lot of the buildings are very much non-orthagonal by design and by time.

I imagined someone would have a quick snappy answer for this, the plugin doesn't sound too complicated, but maybe it is - I dont have clue about that stuff...

Array is also axis dependant, so its no use when modelling from real-world data, as nothing ever is perfectly North or East. Rail Clone lacks the required accuracy.

Go to flay.com and do a search under Subdivide

yeah, I did that first, and as I said in the top post, the closest I could find by description was one called "Sean's cutter" but it doesn't seem to be carried on the site anymore.

the search brough up a LOT of results, and by description, none seemed to be what I was after (and I didn't want to download and test them all... ;)

btw Splinegod, thanks for distributing that free spline modelling video tute on your site, it provided me with a HUGE step in my learning.

Great, glad it helped.
Ive been able to get a few more samples online from the various courses. Check HERE (http://www.3dtrainingonline.com/support/sampler.htm) for more then an hour of extra stuff. :)

Thanks SplineGod, they are great, the good word has been spread :)
