I havent heard anyone talk about Canons XH A1 Hd camera. it looks like it has some good features. compared to the Sonys I though it was comparable to the z1. Has any one had a chance to use one? what do you think.

I got to shoot with an XH A1 a couple of months back. I really liked it. Shot both exterior and low-light interior stuff with it and camera performed flawlessly throughout. For the interior stuff I also had access to the wide-angle attachment and it too worked beautifully. For the varied subject matters I was shooting there was nothing the camera was missing feature-wise that I wished it had. One feature I loved was having not only the zoom and focus ring, but also an aperture ring right in the lens barrel. It allowed for super-quick adjustments as well as the ability to"roll" the exposure while shooting.

Just got mine last month.

Had to fight a little to get rid of the default too soft and undefined image.
The settings are extremely powerful but that also means one has to know what he is doing.

The Autom. Gain Cntr. is probably best left alone as it can introduce a fair amount of noise in low lighting.
Unfortunately when the AGC is off there is no N.D. warning!

Haven't been able to compare it to the competition yet and I'll be curious to know if somebody has

Some had said they knew someone that had problems editing with the footage that came from that camera. would like to know if thats a system problem or there is something goofy with it.

I dont know. I dont even know the difference yet .are you useing speed Edit or FCP? I think they were talking about the i frames were every 14th frame where as the JVC was every 6th frame and it caused glitching.
I think the only camera like this is the Z1 sony but thats close to a grand more.
