Hi to all,
what's the best method to put 3d text on series of polygons?
Thank you.

how does your series of polygons look like ? and what kind of text ? can you provide a rough scribble of what you mean?
This are the polygons where i want to put the 3d text on. I don't want to use a texture, but a 3d text beveled or embossed on the polygons.
Thank you.

maybe something like this...
Yes, thank you.

Anyway i've get another problem. If i try to render a single frame, i get always the same image, even if i move the camera or the object.
Sorry, but i'm a poor beginner.

... did you keyframe the camera or object?
maybe for you it is better to turn on autokey, the first key you have always to set if you dont want that your object jumps back to the start-position...
Nope, i haven't added any key frame. it's a still image.

... even if you have only a still, lightwave needs to know where your object or camera should be ;-) if you dont set a key, lightwave return to default value for transform, rotate and scale before the rendering starts,
It work, now. With autokey turned on. Thank you.
Can't manage to put the text in the correct position. I've noticed that my viewport doesn't correspont to the original setting. Maybe i've rotated too many times the object, and i have a little difficult to put the text in the correct position.
Thank you Pagnozzi.
P.S. Is your surname Italian?

... maybe you show us your viewport, and we can see better the problems you have
... I am native from Italy/Roma ;-)
Well, i want to show my project only when is finished. It's a surprise for all of you that patiently help me. But will get some screenshot to show this problem.
BTW, when you return in Rome, we can go to Ariccia or Frascati for a porchetta :)

Hi
i followed your procedure, but solid drill function doesn't work. What's wrong?
If i use the "Drill" function, the procedure goes OK, but i don't get the result i want.
I've attached two pictures.
Thank you.
Extrude the text in the background layer so it intersects and passes through the foreground plane. Then run Solid Drill. Alternatively, move the text in the background away from the plane and use the Template Drill function in the same way as described above, selecting the appropriate axis.

Thank anyway to all.
Very nice community.

Go to try the new hints

I've tried many time, but i havent managed to put put this text on the poligons. it's a bit hard for a beginner like me to do this. Especially to put a text on a selected polygons. i should use a dedicated tool for this.

Tried again, and almost done

Sigh, almost done the work with a simple box.
But if i try to map the text on a complex polygons, i fail.

Can you post a screen grab of what you have so far?

Always use 1 perspective port in modeler! Much easier to see if your solids are properly intersecting ...
Also, in layout, remember you can change your view to camera (then select which camera you want to look through at the bottom) and see exactly the view that will be rendered. you can also move them in this mode (change the y value in the bottom left).
Remember there is also http://www.lwita.com/ if you have complicated questions that are more easily asked in italian ;) ..

Here's a ridiculous mess of polygons with text "drilled" into it, then surfaced, and smooth-shifted out. Just to show that it can be done even with a totally untidy polygon structure.
Here's what you do:
1. Make a background layer.
2. In this background layer, create your text with the text tool, leaving it 2D, meaning no extrusion.
3. Switch layers so your polygons are in the foreground and your text is in the background. The text doesn't have to be intersecting the polygons.
4. Under the Construct tab, choose the Drill tool. When the requestor pops up, select Stencil, and at the bottom, type in a name for the new surface which will be created.
5. IMPORTANT: make sure you select the correct axis at the top of the drill requestor. In this example, my polys and my text were facing down the Z axis, so I selected Z before hitting OK.
If you do all that, it should work, no matter how your polygons are arranged. They don't even need to be flat, meaning you could do this over bumps and ridges, too.
Then, if you want to extrude or bevel, it's just a matter of selecting the named surface polygons in the polygon statistics panel, and using one of those tools on them. Naturally, the cleaner the mesh is to begin with, the better any extruding/beveling/shifting will work.
BTW, this method also works with any curves or shapes, not just text - using splines in this way is a quick way to shape out some intricate parts of a model. :)

Thank you all.
I've done a good work with the attacher plug-in. The plug-in seems to have a few bugs. Sometime some polygons disappear. I will post the final image soon.
Thnak you all.
