I have an issue that occurs from time to time. When I'm digitizing a DVCAM tape from my DSR 40 deck via firewire to my SpeedEdit system the avi video stream has great video but the audio stops being digitized at some point. It doesn't seem to be at the same point each time. Any ideas why the audio drops out.
Thanks DaveO

Are you set for Type 2 or 1 in SE Prefs? What drive type are you recording to? Another system application by the clock could also interrupt the FireWire system buss during capture, disabling audio. Find a path of least resistance, like a C: slave drive. You will find the workflow for your system configuration. You may need to set enabeled the bottom setting in SE prefs as well.
GoodLuck

3 SCSI Raid 's connected both internally, (2x300GB 10k)
and externally (4x300GB 10K split into two 600GB Raid 0).
System is tein Xeon 3.6. USually been working well but on
occasion it drops the audio during capture.
Thanks

Just to be clear, does the audio stop and not resume, or do you mean there is an audio-only dropout of a frame?

Hi,
The recording begins, goes for a few minutes then stops.
The video continues but the audio stops being recorded.
It doesn't do it at the same place on the original recording
nor does it occur on all recordings. It's set for DV type 2. I've also tried two different VCR's, firewire cables and firewire inputs. I notice the audio bars stop working when the audio stops recording so the system knows it has stopped the audio but what I can't figure out is why it does it. The "autopilot" method of digitizing works great most of the time but I'd still like a manual override on some of the functions.
Thanks for your time. DaveO

You do seem to have the bandwidth Dave, but there may be something going on with the deck/firewire/capture/system. I feel your pain.
Do you have 3GB switch at system boot? If yes, boot without. If no, add and try. Since SE is able to work from a singel drive Laptop, and it is a windows program, maybe try a capture to MyDocs/video as a test. Even though it is random where it drops audio, look inside the lid of the DSR and check for dust.
Sorry your running into some issues.
