View Full Version : Is This Even Possible?
Hello All -
We edit 3-4 huge projects a week (200-300gbs of info!).
Once we cut up the clips, we need to export them as Quicktimes. Obviously, this rendering takes a HUGE amount of time and renders the local editing computer useless.
Is it possible to offload the rendering to a server or a dedicated computer? If so, how would I go about setting this up? What hardware/software would I need?
Thanks in advance!

imagine having to access 300 gbs of data on a network to render....
the bottleneck wouldn't be your server cpu speed, but the speed of the network

Speed Edit doesn't support distributed rendering.
But, rendering in Speed Edit does not make the editing computer useless.
Once you start a render going, you can jump the the next project and capture or edit while the render is going on. How much you can do will of course depend on the power of the computer, but I've got a year and a half old dual Xeon box, and regularly capture and edit SD video while rendering with no noticable performance hit.

Hi,
I am one of Newtek's biggest fans, but if you need quicktime files every week, perhaps SpeedEDIT isn't the tool of choice for you. Please, be certain I'm not trying to be negative here, but if your client requires hundreds of files to be in quicktime.......
Just my thoughts

Problem is, Chip, our source files originate on the Tricaster Pro.
What a love/hate relationship I have with that box. I love all it does, but hate that comes out of it won't work in Final Cut Pro. Hence, Speed Edit.

I send the SVideo out to DVCam, ingest to Final Cut Pro, Edit and output to quicktime. You can batch render for the web using Sorrenson Squeeze or Compressor.
If you have a laptop with FCP you can capture from the Tricaster in real time using non-controllable device as your capture setting.

If you are going through the time of trying to realtime capture, you might as well just convert the video to a DV file in Tricaster, and export that. FCP will read it with no problem.
