My 1.2 version of Speed Edit is crashing very frequently, often on startup. I have noticed that it appears to be happening when Speed edit is trying to read the icons of the video files. I have several that are present, but I don't know which one is the culprit.

Microsoft sent a message that a codec relating to Indeo codecs may be the problem and gave a file name. I did a file search and it was not present on my computer.

Does anyone know if there is a way to change the directory display to file names vs icon displays. Any other help would ne appreciated as well.

Ron:confused:

Try deleting the Newtek Info folder in the folder where the video files are so SpeedEDIT can recreate those files from scratch.

If there are only 'several' that are present, it should be fairly simple to isolate the problem one(s), by separating them into sub-folders and viewing each in turn from the filebin until you get a crash.

What Steve and Eugene said, and somewhere I thought I read, change all the IE folders to show details instead of thumbnails. Mpeg4's and QT's likely, maybe DivX.

The problem that I currently have is Speed Edit crashingon startup. I cannot change directories to use the approach suggested by Steve. Any other suggestions?

Move the files using Windows ... delete the (hidden) NewTekInfo folders while you're in there.

Open the folder that the SE video is in and make 2 new folders. Put half of the clips in one and the rest in the other.... Then start up SE. Now you should only have two folders and one of them could crash your SE... If your SE does not crash, move files one by one until it does.... That should be the one you not want to use with SE....

I just got off the phone with Newtek. I was able to isolate the file that was crashing the system. It was the Real Media file(.rm). Newtek downloaded a .rm file from the internet and was able to duplicate the fault. Tech support stated that they would report it as a bug. It should be noted that I was not trying to load the file into Speed Edit. When Speed Edit scans the directory it reads the file so it can display the animated icon as the mouse goes over the icon. Just having the file in the directory was enough to crash Speed Edit.

Also, there is a provision in Speed Edit where you can disallow the animated icon. In this mode, Speed Edit stills tries to read the first frame for icon display and in doing so, it also crashes the program.

I'll keep everyone posted as this progresses.

(That's why I said use windows to isolate the files and identify which was causing the problem.)
