G4s for ScreamerNet?

Now that Apple seems to be cutting/lowering prices on existing Desktop G4s, I wonder which would be the one(s) to get for ScreamerNet purposes?

I don't intend to pay close to entry-level G5 money for an outgoing G4, no matter how fast it is, but if I can find something for $600-$800, that would seem good value..

maybe I'm dreaming about prices like that...

There are discounts on right now for G4 Powermacs.

However... it may not be worth it. If the G5 is (as it's said to be) many times faster than current G4s, then it may be better to get an entry level single processor G5.

I guess it boils down to how many dollars per clock cycle of computer power. Even then it's hard to put a figure on it, as the G5 is a new architecture, and probably does more work per clock cycle than a G4.

Alternatively, go for some early model single processor G4s. It doesn't matter what graphics card they have, as that doesn't affect Screamernet. You still need to deck them out with lost of RAM though.
