View Full Version : Indexing - I hate it when computers ask me questions.

So I opened VT2 for the first time from the desktop and a window opens up that says, you've never opened VT before, we are about to go on a journey...

Short version, it says I may need to increase the Ted default and DDR default CPU settings, the C: drive has 61.0 mb/s and is okay for video caches, the V: drive (3 U320 SCSIs) has 177 mb/sec and is -best- for video caches, the Ted cache drive and DDR cache drive settings may be too low, set the Aura tempdir, 303 DVEs were found on Drive C and the DVE folder is set to C:\DVEs...

and then we got to Phase 4 Drive Indexing.

I get another window saying that Windows has a drive indexing function that can cause some serious performance problems when writing video to a drive and would I like to disable it for all video drives? Well sure. So it "fixed" drive C:
.....................................
.....................................
.....................................

Huh? Is this something I need to "undo" and how?

Anyway, this is way too fun.

Thanks for any help, and sorry if this is dumb.

Drive indexing is best turned off for whichever drives you're capturing video on because Windows will occasionally access the drive to build a table of files so it can index them quickly - if it does this whilst you're capturing video you *might* drop frames. For your system drive it's best to leave it on.

TEd and DDR CPU settings should be 0.2 less than your CPU - i.e 2.5ghz P4 should be set at 2.3

TEd and DDR cache drive setting should be around (but not over) your detected transfer rate for your video drive (usually your RAID) - in your case between 160-170mbps.
