I'm brand new to SpeedEdit. I am working with mpeg2 files. When I bring them onto the timeline, I can't hear any sound. I've adjusted the volume in the speededit output window, but still no sound. When I play outside of SE, the sound is there.
Any help greatly appreciated!

Add-on to previous question. I rendered a selection (I windowed a small portion including both video and audio) to an .avi file - still no sound.

Try going into the custom setting for Mpeg2 and be sure the audio box is checked. Depending on the source video, inside Prefs at the bottom are 2 boxes you may need to enable.

Chances are that you have AC3 audio in these files.
You will need to get an AC3 codec for windows and then enable DirectShow AAC/AC3 support in the SpeedEDIT preferences.
I've done quite a bit of testing with the free K-Lite Mega codec pack (just google for it) and these only seem to have problems with rendering to OGG audio and playing VP6 codec video files.
I can't guarantee it completely, but I'm using it on my systems daily.

Thanks for the help. I installed the codecs and audio is working great.
Now another question. I am capturing entire VCR tapes into MPEG2 format and importing them into SE. I am doing this so that I can quickly scan through the file to find small clips that I want for a project.
I'm using different software on two different computers to capture the video. The MPEG from one works great. From the other one, I can't see the preview. It's there if I render a portion of it out to avi. Any clue what format change would cause this?
Thanks!
