When I upgrade to VT3 will I be able to take projects that need to be re-created on Avid or Media 100 from source tapes (using the EDL discs that I generate on VT3)?
Thanks.

From the VT3 info page:
"VT-Edit now supports EDL import and export, allowing the import of Grass Valley, CMX, Sony, and Excel; EDL list formats can be moved in and out of VT-Edit."

Only the clips, not the project, as if u have been working in timeline you will not be able to open that up in Avid or media 100.....its only EDL.
The thing needed is AAF,OMF MXF.......if that happens VT3 will be free to export to Avid and other editors.

Okay, thanks...so...if I do an offline edit (on VT3; cuts, dissolves audio splits, moving graphics, layers) for a client who wants to re-create the edit in another city on an Avid I will need AAF, OMF, MXF? Is that what you are saying?
But if I do straight cuts only I would be fine?
I'm sorry if I am not clear but I need to know exactly what I can do for a client with an Avid.
What is AAF, OMF, MXF?

No, it means that AAF support is planned, but our hair is on fire right now trying to squash all the bugs so we can get the Gold Master of VT[3] out the door.

I need AAF. If I order VT3 now can I expect AAF as a free update?
Down to the wire now. Thanks for your prompt responses.
