Just a funny note...... Since I am a brand new user.... so new in fact I haven't loaded any of my own footage yet.... so I've been playing with the content provided with the Software.

I noticed in the footage provided that the gloved maids hand flips off the "quicktime" footage. Is it just my imagination or is NewTek telling us all something???

This footage is in the content showing Speededit's ability to incorporate multipile formats in the timeline. It's not realy visible in their onlinne commercial.

Also - speaking of their footage - When I load "Proj09-withColorFX.VTP" my system runs really slow and stutters during any overlay parts.

Thinking it was my system, I started a new HD 720P project and loaded multiple 720P clips onto the timeline, overlayed all of them, re-sized them and ran them all together. I can do 6 layers that way no problem.

Any reason why the NewTek Proj09 would run and stutter like that?

Jason.

You'll forgive me for this, as I couldn't resist, "Unknown Producer":

I'm curious how that file would behave in overlay mode, under Windows XP 32 bit, rather than Vista 32.

Frankly, I'm having a difficult time believing that it's sensible for me to "upgrade" my 64-bit, dual-core notebook from WinXP Media Center Edition 2005 -- to Windows Vista 32-bit! Having received those discs in the mail, I utterly refuse to subject myself to a 32-bit Vista install. but that's just me. :thumbsdow

I have both a Mac with FCP and a Tricaster for live switching.
I would love for the Tricaster to record to quicktime or any other standard file format that would import to my FCP timeline without having to render.

Right now I have to record to DVCam tape from the tricaster.

Do other Windows based NLEs really support QuickTime properly?

I've always heard that Windows based QT is never as good as Mac based QT.

Well, Premiere surely does.

I've always heard that Windows based QT is never as good as Mac based QT.
QT is surely a lot slower on PCs, but that isn't really surprising. However, it seems SEs read support for QT is not based on QT itself but on ffmepg (since it doesn't support third party QT codecs, or all native QT codecs for that matter).
Exporting could also use some extra work (There is no way to set the quality at the moment)..

Cheers,
Mike

Keep in mind that there is a huge difference between QuickTime the framework and QuickTime the container format (.mov) and the standard QuickTime codecs. If SpeedEdit does not use the QuickTime framework, it does not support QuickTime. It does, however, most likely support most of the standard QuickTime codecs and formats.

It does seem to use the framework for the export (but doesn't display the quality slider). Easy to check because if you go to the advanced settings for a coded it will open the QT user interface for those.
Since SE does have problems using third party codecs installed in the system when reading (i.e. certain BlackMagic ones) I presume it reads them using ffmpeg - in that case by reading the containers directly circumventing the framework (I assume for performance reasons).

Mike
