I am new to LightWave but know Maya somewhat. A friend wants to make 3d representations of an aiff waveform that change frame to frame, and so a procedural approach will be needed. Is there a toolset to glean data from an AIFF to build geometry?

I'm at billgilman@yahoo.com or reply here.

Anyone in LA know how to do this and available for a quick demo?

nice idea if there was. Bin looking for something like this in LW. Its audio support in general seems very poor. Canr even see the waveform properly let alone get anything usefull from it. If u find a way let me know.

There is a plugin that can use an audio file in a channel. It is found in the modifier tab/Add modifier of the graph editor. It is named oddly enough, audio chanel.

From here - not knowing exactly what you want to animate, a line that looks like an audio wave a series of lines etc. - the possiblities are quite a few. Once you have a chanel effected by the audio wave you could have it affect other plugins such as sock monkey which uses nulls to deform an object like bones. Light channels, bones, anything with a channel could be animated with the audio channel. This plugin, your knowlege of what lightwave can do and some imagination will get you there.

If you give some more specifics of your visual needs I can help more with some specific tools, etc. :)
