Sorry for the OT, but I was wondering the following,
I am building a gaming rig. SLI capable.
Should I go with a single 8800GTS (with possibly adding another in time.)
or
2 7600GTs in SLI?
Both situations are about $260
I will have Vista and XP pro on a dual boot.
Thanks for the time all...
rock on.....:jam:

1 8800 is more powerfull than 2 7600gts's in Sli . if you get the 8800 get the 640meg version not the 320.
Do you have or going to get the 680i Sli mobo , its one of the most popular right now and its cheap at newegg..plus as the name implies , you can go sli with 2 8800's in the future if need be.
I have that setup and I run my games in HDR and Wow its ultra smooth especially with a few gigs of ram and 22" widescreen Lcd..I dont have any problems with playing my games either in HDR or Max resoloution.

Howdy Fulcrum,
South Carolina is correct.....
I'm at the one with the fireworks stores, strip bars and roller coasters.... :D
Thanks for the gaming info.
This project started as a 'mid budget' gamer.
So I was looking at the venerable Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe.
Couple years old, but a big favorite of gamers and SLI ready. And available for a little over $100.
I have since upped my component list to 'low end of high' gaming system, but still trying to go 'fairly' light on the $$, so I am still looking at AMD.
Now looking at the Asus Crosshair gaming board, a 4200+ Windsor proc and OCZ ram.
I was going to save a 100 bucks and go with the 320MB 8800gts. Have you heard of reasons to avoid the 320 version besides the obvious lower amount of ram?
Thanks again for the links and the info,
Jim

well games are having a hard time with 256megs of ram, 320 isnt much better.
640 should be good for good while... As for the Mobo mine is the Asus P5NE-
Sli it was around 139$ at newegg..
as for Cpu -http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103747 Is this the one your getting ? If you read here you can see that the -
http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/06/05/first_benchmarks_conroe_vs_fx-62/page8.html#summary_and_conclusions
2.6 cpu beats it--but for 200$ less you can get the 2.4 here --
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115003
it cost 200 more than the 99$ cpu from Amd, But gives mad bang for the buck. if you do the research you'll see it can be overclocked to 3.6ghz or so.
also you can see what other people say , that even the e6300 at 1.8ghz beats the cpu you picked and its only 181$ or 81$ extra.
heres a review of that chip - http://techreport.com/reviews/2006q3/e6300-vs-sff/index.x?pg=17

If I were building today, I would get a Core 2 Duo processor.

Hey Guys,
Fulcrum , thanks for all the help and info....
This GeForce 8800 GTS will be a good choice for those equipped with 20’’ LCD monitors using 1680x1050 resolution and who quickly need a graphic card.
Interesting point that is. I am planning on a 22" or 24".
Duly noted that the Core 2 Duo is the pack leader.
The longer I take to make this list, the higher $$ the parts WILL go...
but this setup was originally one of those $800 rigs.
Just looking for something to game on while projects encode. Right now I game on my VT/SpeedEdit NLE rig booted to a separate XP install.
thanks again for the input(s)

the above statement about the 20" , was meant as in 20" or bigger.
Pc Gamer reviewed a 37" westing house 1200$ and if I remember right the guy said you would need atleast a Gts to run it. Prob a GTX hehe.
I got my 22" Monitor, 2 drives and the mobo,Cpu ,Cooling fan and more case fans for about 1200$..
alrdy had the case..I could have brought the price down by 100$ or more by dropping 1 drive and some fans... you sound like me a few months back I wanted to build a quick cheap rig , but I settled for middle of the road. Wich I think turned out great.... If check newegg.com the prices are always dropping more or less and sometimes they have 1 day specials when they really drop the price on some items.
