Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone as every attempted to transmit a LIVE video stream out of Tricastor Pro via a wireless USB adaptor?? I have a shoot that they want it streamed to the web but the nearest "Hard wired" Cat 5 plug is a clear 500' away.

If someone can help me out on this I would appreciate it very much

If you can manage a direct and secure connnection then I would yes.

I have streamed on a shared "open" connection and at times the load overwhelmed the wireless router so our stream stuttered. If you can do a 802.11G point to point connection then you should be fine no problem.

I have used 2 Linksys wireless access point boxes to do this and it worked perfectly. We were in a similar situation and couldn't run Cat5 to our switching location. You can also put high output antennae on the access points to insure a stable connection. I have a couple of 20db antennae that are rated up to 3 miles line of sight. 500 feet would be no trouble at all.

Another more commercial option would be to use a wireless lan solution from Trango. It would be a little under 2000 USD but absolutely stable no matter what due to the frequencies and encryption they use.

Contact me via email sales at pizazzme dot com if you need more info.

Here is the link to the Trango unit we have used to setup a wireless network connection with very little chance of interference.

You can try it, but it's not recommended. We recommend a hard-wire 54mbps connection if you can manage it.

Wireless connections send out information in bursts instead of sending it continuously, and it keeps sending out these bursts until it knows they've been caught. It's great for browsing the internet, but for streaming live video it won't be the best idea. Feel free to try, I just wouldn't expect consistent results.

Oh, and you could make the CAT5 work, 500ft of cable doesn't cost much, but you'd need to bridge the connection once because after (I think) 325ft the signal dies significantly on a hard-wire.
