Hi all,
I posted a wee while ago about the bones trouble I was having where all the bones seem to deform the mesh except for one, the chest bone. I tried everything to fix it but nothing seemed to work. Sam got me to try and create the bones in layout and that worked once but not again. I have now worked out how to solve the problem and am just letting you know what it is incase anyone else has this problem.
I'll explain wot I done first just to see if anyone can point out any mistakes which I have made which was causing this problem.
I created a set of skelegons for my mesh and assigned each skelegon to only one weightmap and set of points. I then loaded the object into modeller and converted the skelegons to bones. made sure all the bones were using their weight map only and unchecked weight normalisation. I created the motion I was looking for and everything seemed to work in layout. However once I exported it to shockwave 3d the middle spine bone was the only bone which wasn't deforming the mesh. I tried everything from recreating new weight maps, deleting old ones, making sure no weight map or bones were overlapping but still no luck. I eventuallyy was getting fed up and created a new weight map whilst working thru the hub and just called it a random name (which was 456) All of a sudden it worked. I then tried renaming it as the same name as the old weight map and it stopped working again. I thought maybe there was a name cinflict here but I made sure no other surface, bone or weight map had the same name. I then went on and tried another couple of names, some worked some didn't. This also only worked if modeller and layout were opened at the same time and were synchronised with each other. Once the file was save and re opened it continued to work (thank god)
So I can now fix it but I really don't understand why this has happened. I don't even know if it is new to 7.5b either. Has anyone else had problems like this or can see why this has happened.
I can upload the scene and object files if anyone is interested in having a go.
Cheers
Mark
