View Full Version : More glass fun
Finally got a chance to play around with the new materials.
Dielectric with 'Switch' node instead of air polygons.
First one lit by a weak area light, second just a luminous polygon. 13 minutes for an 800x800 frame on a dual core 3 ghz pc. Relatively low (Interpolated) GI and AA settings.

That glass looks good but something about it makes it look to me like it's not actually sitting on the ground. I guess I can't see the ground enough through the btm even if the settings are correct.
Could you rerender it over a glowing green grid instead of stone? good for checking refraction

It may be that the MES is too high... also try decreasing your AS value to get rid of that same grain.

Anti-aliasing would really improve this. Also, try using the "limit dynamic range" option to reduce the glowing white dots.
Hmmmm I just switched Nodes off on the bg material and changed it to something simple and glowing and the render time went down to 3 minutes.
Upped the AA too.

Hi !
It looks nice but it can be improved with more AA/AS here and as suggested turning on Limit dynamic range.
BTW i see that model many times so i wonder is that available to public anywhere or is it your model, thanks?
That AA looked ok on my monitor at work! I can't believe how bad it looks on this one-I thought you were all being a bit harsh ;D
The model is freely available but I can't remember the link-I'll post it tomorrow morning (GMT)

Lots of great free models on this site-many ideal for these kind of experiments.

Actually this is a model from the old Viewpoint library which Digimation now owns. It wasn't a free object but perhaps Digimation just doesn't care anymore as I've seen a number of their objects on various model content sites.
