Has anyone had any experience using hyperthreaded P4 chips with Lightwave?

I'm looking at a P4 3.06 GhzHT and was wondering if I would notice a significant improvement over my 2.53 P4.

I realize that the new system has a better video card and faster hard drive, but was wondering it the hyperthreading technology would really make much difference with LW (and Digital Fusion, and Pinnacle Edition, and so on and so on.)

You will see slight performance gain (maybe not SO slight) from HT. You will definitely see a performance gain between a 2.53 and a 3.(06) due to other factors like dual channel memory. Go with the 3.0c not the 3.06b processor. The c rev has 800mhz front side bus. Get an 875p chipset motherboard with at least 1gig of ram (in the form of 2x512mb DIMMs). Go to http://www.blanos.com for benchmarks. Last time I looked, my machine was in the top 2 for single CPU machines with the above configuration.

I'm currently configuring a system that supports the 800mhz FSB, and HT. I'm going with a 2.8 Ghz (supports 800mhz FSB, and HT) processor at the moment....

Seeing how LW is optimized for Intel, I'd definitely make sure that any MB you get now has the 800Mhz FSB, and that your P4 is of the 800mhz FSB, HT flavor.

I'd forget about AMD for use with LightWave, unless you really want to save money.
