Hi all

i'm trying to doing some tests for a background composition for a cowboy blue screen and running out of idea's of how to get a photo realistic background/buildings. I still have to do more models but am little bit eager and wanted to try and set the stage in layout.

Any suggestions on how to make that extra step would be glady recieved.

many thanks

I like the last round of renders - I think some grunge would really help anchor the models and make them look more realistic. Also, how do they look when comped into the final plate? It's hard to tell things like lighting and camera matching when the objects are on a white plane.

Upon second glance - check your scale, too. The steps to the boarwalk look high enough to be benches when compared to the hieght of the doors in the buildings.

Hi, theres no plate at the present, trying to see if can produce a convincing background, if so then going to do some blue screen filming.

added in a second step , you would have had to been on your horse to get up there :) whoops.

added some nails but for some reason they didn't appear, trying them again. changed the boards so they are planks and not just single repeated. added curtains with pulls and ivy.

with regards to grunge think thats' going to be harder. not sure were to start with that. think it's getting there, forgot how much work this was.

cheers

Looking great right now, though!

Try searching the web for "photoshop grunge brushes" - I've gotten a bazillion from a couple great sites. Unfortunately, I can't remember the web addresses right now. Anyway, use the brushes to add some scratches, peeling paint, etc. You may be able to get away with adding a proceedural with blending mode multiply and a lower opacity in the diffuse channels to help sell the grunge. Try some drop off as well or an alpha to localize the effect of the above.

One hint: add some dirt to wooden blocks near ground and to buildings near bottom.
