hi again

Here I am with my newbie questions. This one is embarrasing but I gave up triying to find the answer on the net or the help files.

First I did a test: I tried to cut a hole in a subdivided surfaces box with the polys subdivided. The bolean tool didn't work as expected, it cutted a weird amount of polys and totally off the shape I had in the second layer. may I ask why?

Then it becomes worst. I have a little model and I need to make holes on it. I'm trying to use the Boolean tool + subtract but nothing happens. I read that for the subtraction to happen all the involved shapes need to be closed. My problem is that I can't find the opening. Is there a way to find where it might be? What am I doing wrong? Will I be able to do it at all, since it won't let me subtract from a subdivided polys shape?

Thank you for your patience and help
Patricio

A lot of people try to steer away from boolean subtrating subpatched objects, the reason is the boolean will create polys that are greater than 4 points. This will create big holes in the subpatched object.
It can be done, but you need to make sure that the end result will end up being 3 or 4 point polys. This may need some manual work on your part after the subtraction has occured. I recommend that you turn off sub patch before doing any subtracting, then you can see which polys are n-gons.
If you need a hole in a subpatched object, try selecting a poly on each side of the object and use the bridge tool. This will create your hole using all 4 point polys.

So, I kept looking around and messing with different tools, thinking of what you said, and I stumbled with Edge Bevel. That tool was exactly what I needed. Thank you for your reply Silk and thank you for making me think :D
