Hi,

Finally upgraded to LW9 and discovered what seems to be a repeatable crash, described below. It's very basic and just involves moving a single light in a very simple scene causing LW to hang. I'm using a very stock computer, details below. The crash doesn't happen with 8.2 on the same machine.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Test file is at http://workfresh.com/lightwave

instructions are:

1. open scene: ogl_test_v001.lws

the scene should open with dual viewports split vertically, camera on the LEFT, back on the RIGHT.

2. ensure move tool is selected

3. select the light using SHIFT-L

4. try to move the light in the RHS viewport (back view)

...at this point the scene hangs on my computer

since you upgraded to 9, you qualify for the 9.2 beta. which just about to be released as a final version very soon. tons of bug fixes. i had a lot of problems with 9 also, but haven't had a single problem with build 1130, and there's been 2 more builds since then.

3 :)

And yes, although 9.2 is still in beta, it's more stable than 9.0 ever was.

That's very interesting, and counterintuitive to my normal experience with software.

I'd always thought that software builds available to the public were the 'stable' releases, and the betas were the 'unstable' development builds.

But thanks for letting me know, and I'll 'upgrade' to the beta immediately.

i agree. i usually avoid betas like the plague, unless their really interesting. and i don't want to be a part of bad mouthing lightwave in general, because 9.0 is still what is for sale at the moment. but now that 9.2 is no longer under an nda, and everyone qualifies for it with a legal license to 9, it bears to mention that 9.0 was what it was, and 9.2 is a lot better. almost a steal for the money, in my opinion...

I'm not saying all the bugs are out, but a large part of 9.2 is getting old bugs redirected to the graveyard, and they did a great job.
