Hi All:

I am rigging a woman. I have her in a simple walk cycle (not using the plug-in). I have goals for each leg at the ankle. I have setup the IK in the motion window correctly (I think). I have keyfamed the location of her foot at the beginning, end and middle part of the step over a 80 frame time. Problem is when her right leg is bent as she steps forward a frame or two past the key all of sudden the knee goes straight and her foot drops. The next few frames there is a jiggle (if that is the right word) as her foot approaches the foward movement of the step. What is causing this? Is this gimble lock or approaching that condition?

Thanks for the replies. :D

Don

PS the left leg also has the same problem but not at the same frames. I have the whole body of the model moving up and down slightly as she moves through the walking cycle. This is more natural.

It sounds like a gimbal-lock problem. If you post a screen cap, it'll be easier to diagnose what's going on.

The old prebend the knee joints problem me dear watson !

OK when you create your bones for the legs make sure you have the knees bent ( 5 -10 degs should do it ) this tells LW which way it the prefered way to bend the joint.

I prefer skelegons to creating in Layout but that just me.

if this doesn't fix the issues,Hide the mesh and post a picture of the bones and rig ;)

If you don't want to re-do the bones, you can just switch full-time IK off temporarily and key the shin bones in a bent position then switchfull-time IK on again . This should fix it.
