Hi there,
I'm part of a studio who utilises LW in our pipeline. We are gonna start on a feature film quite soon and need to get input on what is considered to be the best GI method out there, as far as settings go.
We obviously want it to look very good with the smallest amount of render time.
Any input would be greatly appreciated :help:
Try and error is the way to go. So start doing test renderings with a scene of your film and test different settings and look if quality and quantity is okay. Gi depends even more than raytracing on the scene, so there is no "good" setting that will do the whole film.

i second what ingo says. if you are willing to use a 3rd party renderer, try to have a look at kray (http://www.kraytracing.com), first - this seems to be the best deal for GI and animations on LW right now. fprime can do good GI renderings as well! also, if you didn't already, i'd recommend to register for the LW 9.2 beta cycle now and have a look at the latest developments there...

One trick is using interpolated radiosity and motion blur to hide the splotches, but as the others said before, there's some try and error involved (number of rays, bounces, tolerance etc) to adapt radiosity to the size and complexity of your scene.
There something cooking in the beta right now, but you should surely check out 3rd party renderers as Markus pointed out. If you do it commercially, the costs shouldn't bother you (312 EUR for Kray and 400$ for Fprime, very little money)
