First thing , I tryed to us SE for capturing, It seemed to work I cant tell if there are dropped frames but the timecode is not smooth when capturing or playback. not so much a big deal but it helps to tell if your getting all the video in. the other is the color thing in prefs needs to work in real time or have some type of preveiw.
3rd one i cant controll my deck when capturing. If i use the controles on the deck they do change in SE, like play RR, FF Stop.
Im useing a dual 2.8 zeon 1 gig 4 73 scisi.

thats it so far.

I cant seenm to fine the edit button in this forum,

I dont know if this is needed but wouldnt it be nice to have your dv convert as its recording or is that not really needed.

why not keep it in its original form ?

either the original dv stream or uncompressed.

the less transcoding the better imho

I think nt25 or the new ones are supposed to use less system resorces and have better compresion.

What (I think) you are speaking of "better compression" does not exist. If you have DV footage that you transfer into the computer, converting this into another format could not possibly create a better quality image or file. It could result in a higher compression ratio (i.e. smaller file size) and perception could be that the image is of similar (but not same) quality but I do not belive you can create a video file that is better than the original. Everthing has trade-offs.

Edit: after posting, there is an edit button on the lower right of the post. Click that and do what I am doing right now. You can also then click on the "go advanced" button for even more changes.

The only thing you would gain by using SpeedHQ would be a little less tax on your system. But really how much tax do plain ole DV files put anyway?

Plus Eugene reported that when going to SD DVD using tmpgenc, the SpeedHQ codec actually had more noise in dark areas than good ole DV Type 2.

Probably due to the fact that it is a higher compression.

edit:The edit button disappears after a set time. I think the powers that be have it set for 10 minutes or something.

Exactly, I gotta say, if DV files are taxing your system, you can really forget about running SpeedEDIT on that system.

Correct.

Correct.

If your project is DV, you should stay DV. If your project is HDV, and you need to go outside of SpeedEDIT, THEN I recommend using the SpeedHQ codec, it is about twice the datarate of HDV and intraframe, so it will hold up better for that use.

Yeah, I hate those changes to the forum. :thumbsdow
