Finially got this to work! Doing a test plate of an effect I'm trying to work into a small film. Going for an old-stlye anime type of Ground-blowing-up-and-rising-into-the-air type of effect. Going for a traveling force-wave across the ground. Used C4 for the destruction but getting the textures right were a pain because of the way it handles the object. I've also done with Hypervoxl flames and smoke and more realistic gravity as an explosion. Any ideas or thoughts?

I wish I could read it. I'm on a mac. Any chance you could give us a .mov or a DiVX?

Sparky-- Just download Windows Media Player, then you can watch it.

Anyway, about the animation... it's off to a good start, but here are some suggestions that came to mind:

-- make sure that the pieces don't pass through each other or the ground. It destroys any realism about it.

-- If you want realism, try breaking up the shape of the pieces even more. Right now they have a definite "polygon" look to them... real ground chunks would be much more ragged. Also, maybe have some smaller pieces and little bits of ruble falling off of the bigger pieces.

-- is that the speed it will be in the final version? It might be a tad slow... unless of course, that was your intention.

All in all, a good start, and be sure to keep us updated. Keep up the good work!

I didn't bother with collision detection for now, mainly working with the textures and action. I'll have to post one with collision on. As for the speed I was going for something slow, almost dream-like, like a dissolve. Going to be a large area around a person slowly disentegrating.

One more thing to consider:

In this effect most anime directors would put a slight falling effect before the pieces raise upwards. As if the shockwave pushes the pieces into the ground first, and then the vacuum left in its wake sucks them up into the air...

Does that make sense? Or should I try to dig up some examples?
