Hello,

I am a very new user to Lightwave. I have been impressed with its capabilities and have been progressing quickly in the program in the last three days. I have two issues right now, though. First is that I am trying to create an 'aura' around the nozzles of a spaceship that I modeled in Modeler. I want it to glow when I render it in Layout. I currently have no idea how to do this.

Also I have a glitch on my screen when I try to use certain windows. Different windows distort at different times. It all seems random, because sometimes when I start LW up it doesn't happen.

I am using LW v9 on an XP Pro laptop with an Intel Dual Core processor, 256 MB nVidia graphics card, and 1 GB of RAM

Don't know about the distortion, but for engine glow you have a couple of options:

1. Place a light there, with lens flare.

2. Use the 'glow' function on a surface in your engine nozzle. (RTFM!) This is a bit basic, but may be good enough for what you want.

3. try using 'image processing' - I think bloom, to get a more controlled glow effect.

Thanks. I don't have a paper manual and I Googled for the answer but couldn't find it.

There is a .pdf manual provided on your LW install disk, as well as a downloadable one under your available downloads (I believe it's at the bottom of the page along with your update downloads).

My preferred option for glows is to use Sprite HVs. They're much more controllable than is LWs default glow, they can be customized per instance, and they are texturable.
