Does anyone have a good method for doing eyelids that conform to a round shape (ala eyeball) that is still attatched to the head geometry vs. separate shapes that are unconnected?

I have tried the tutorial on the site with the Cartoon Eyes approach. It works pretty well, but I can not figure out how to make it part of the geometry and get any reliable results.

For examples of this style, look at Dory's eyes in Finding Nemo. Look at Wazowski's eye in Monster's Inc. as well as others like the purple, invisible dude.

There has got to be a decent way to do this, but I can not solve it.

Staying connected is the key.

Please help.

Thanks.

I think Larry Shultz (splinegod) posted something on this a while back. Displacement maps and/or morphs. Search the forums here and go to his site http://www.splinegod.com also might e-mail him.

Hey...Hi...you want some good looking eyelids, eh? well I've tried the Cartoon Eyes tutorial and it definitely comes in handy for squashy/stretchy cartoony eyes, but if the eyes are round and don't need to bug out of the head and do crazy stuff there is a tried and true method I stick to for almost all eye opening occasions...here goes...

Open your object in MODELER, being sure that all your pieces are in one layer (thats the goal, right?)...now select all the points of the right eye and make a new weight map with a value of 100% for all selected points and call it "right eye"...then do the same thing for the left eye, naming the weight map "left eye"...now add a skelegon for each eye, being sure to place the pivot points at the exact centers of each eye respectively...Now open your object in LAYOUT and convert skelegons to bones...thats it...go ahead and rotate the bones to rotate the eyes all in one layer...you can also a null and target each bone to the null so you can just run the null around for eyeline...but don't forget to correct for parallax (which I can explain if necessary)...

...so was that helpful at all? its late and I'm half crazy so I hope I didn't wast your time...good luck...wishing the best...from the void...j.p.rapscallion...

Yeah, that was a great tip in the cartoon eyes tutorial (you can also setup IK for the eye bones so that you can animate the eyes' targets), but that is for rotating eyes. But he asked about eyelids. There is another tutorial that shows you how to use bones to deform the eylids. It is very simple, and i kicked myself in the head for not thinking of this method before.http://www.newtek.com/products/lightwave/contests/dec-02/winners/tutorials/layout/Demian_Kurejwowski/index.html
