I would love to here the LW community's thoughts on this image - (like it dont like it - cool or uncool). I tried to have the normal (current) LW 7.5 logo a bit more "cutting edge" and with some ferocity and feeling of power - like the monster that it is.
Thanks and take care!

It's ok, but the non-chrome parts do not stand out enough so it looks somewhat strange at first sight. I hope the NT guys take a look at it for inspiration anyway - The branding of their products is just missing a consistent design (every product has a dramatically different logo). Maybe some day they can do something as stylish as Maya or XSI.

I like it its sharp and clean, but as Mylenium says you cannot define the dark parts.Perhapse the lighting could be increased just a little,it has to me an allien look about it

Thanks for your replies. Yes it's true, I see what you mean about the dark areas being difficult to make out. I could have it on a white background or see if I could intensify the lights (hoping I don't blow out the light chrome areas). Thanks for the critiques!
About the style being inconsistant, I see it more as a transformation of an older version of the logo. It's like what they've done with the version 5x to version 6x-7x. 5x looked like a doughy looking deal. The 6 logo was a MUCH better transformation - yet, it still has a benign look to it. I guess it might have to do with the spikes looking a little too cutesy. They're not dynamic, they just sit there.
I wanted this logo to be fast looking and powerful. I don't know if others see this in it or not that's why I wanted opinions.
Thanks again.

SORRY FOR CAPS, AE RENDERING
MAYBE A LIGHT METALIC BLUE FOR THE BLACK PARTS...
OR PERHAPS A MORE ORGANIC INTERIOR... MORE LIKE A TRIBAL TATTOO...
Looks cool like sharks teeth. I'd loose the little gear sproket danging out at the bottom, gives it the feel of a broken watch :) But damn looks great.

Thanks for the responces.
Riki, I had planned that this logo could be animated and thus I wanted it to retain a look which suggested a mechanical structure underneath in order to "drive the movement". I was planning an idea of a serpent that from an extended position, it recoils into the shape you see.

No serpent... the structure isn't flexible enough. Ever seen the movie Krull? I see this as more of a warrior's implement.
Perhaps the pieces "extend" from a collapsed version, giving the weapon more bite, so to speak.
It's a good idea but I think you need to push it a bit further, refine down the look and surface of the model. I really don't like the sprocket and I think the curve tail section doesn't look quite right. I think it could be excellent but you neeed to push it more.
Not to detract from your image Ramon (as yours is a good attempt to make the LW logo look more agressive), but I saw this rendition of the LW logo on the add for the DXF+ deal (on CGChannel). I think it looks pretty neat. Especially if it meant that LW 8 will be sporting subsurface scattering (though, that's just wishful thinking)...

Earl, SSS would be nice definitely (although Worely has it in G2) it would be great if LW8 would feature it. It would enhance an already excellent renderer.
Riki, yeah that one sprocket shows up too much, I agree. I believe it may be the specular kick. Do you like the underlying mechanism idea though?
Thanks

I'm working on a another project however, I will try to sneak in some work on the logo and post it with some changes and different lighting schemes and maybe with a white background (clean look).

Does it look more dynamic than the current LW logo? I guess my problem with the L6+ logo is that it looks too static.
