Hi, my computer recently packed in, started giving me these blue screen harware errors and is becoming very unstable for workin on my showreel. So ive decided to wait untill january sales and then splash out on a new Tower. The tower is all i need, TFT's ect..ect.. i allready have, Im probably willing to spend £500... :D
Anybody got any good websites for me to visit or any helpful tips of processors and graphics card i should look out for on my budjet, cheers :)
**I do have a geForce 6600GT that i could use in my new comp to save some money, I havent really kept up to date with graphics card the last wee while, but the 6600GT served me well throu my last year of Univesity.

What have you been doing with yourself these days?
I have been hiding my head in an accountancy office while avoiding doing work for my showreel.
Anyway...for your £500 box i would recomment something like this...see attached image from overclockers.co.uk
Prob not the cheapest but i was in a hurry.

Hi m8, Im good. I hope u find time to get back to workin on ur Reel.
I like the list, only question...I havent really kept up with CPU's ect... Whats this Core 2 Intel stuff, isnt 1.86ghz pretty slow for 3D work ?

No... the Frequencies have all changed. Its basically the newest dual core intel have.
Im planning on spending the extra money and get he 6600 instead of the 6300. Its basically 2 cores and will render MUCH faster than your old P4.
Intel are kicking AMDs *** at the moment.
If i were you i would buy a good heatsink and overclock it to 2.13 or something. Its really easy and im told the 6300 wont heat up much by doing it. Maybe only a couple of degrees.

Yep, the mags are all agreed, core 2 dup is graeat value. I just got a new one myself. But don't make the mistake I did, and skimp on the power supply! :-(

Not a PC, but my Core 2 2.33GHz MacBook Pro is pretty **** fast. I have Windows installed via bootcamp and LW runs really well on it. GPU is a X1600 mobility w/256MB VRAM. I also have 2GB RAM.

hmmmmm, sounds good.
Anybody know of other good sites for customization, With overclockers i think they just send u those bits seperate dont they..
I tried Dell.co.uk. I managed to customise a PC for about £625, i bit more than id like to pay :(
**"day my PC got even worse, for some reason (i dont know if it is hardware related) but every time i save a scene file, it wont load at a later date, so bassically if i dont get a final render done in my 1st go, i can kiss all the work goodbye, and i have to load the original scene1 that i made on my family comp back on before it will recognise it as a good file
I re-installed Lightwave and it hasent helped. This happends in Modeller aswell, its almost luck if i can save a files succesfully, sometimes it will lock up 1/2 way throu the saving process and that will then bugger the file......:compbeati
I was goin to wait till Jan, but 2 me thats another 2 months of work i could get done with my showreel lost :( So i will be hopefully getting 1 in 2weeks. Just need ur guys help with places to buy from :)
Cheers, look forward to ur reply :)

Honestly...i would just the bits. Its soooo easty to put together and you will save money rather than getting it build for you.
Or...ill build it for 2 pints (or beer :D )

1.86Ghz Core 2 duo is faster than 3Ghz P4 and you have dual cores. I would however recommend moving up to one that supports 4M cache - because Core 2 like more cache. I am running Dual 3Ghz Xeon 5160's and Lightwave is 8.5 times faster than my P4 3.2Ghz machine.
