View Full Version : 3 Toasters working together....
I want to make a set up with 3 VT.
One for the studiocontrol who works as main, and one to prepare shows on and the last one is a backup unit for the other 2 Toasters.
They are all connected in a shared SAN storage so that they all can access the same files.
Is there a way to move one complete setup with from one Toaster to another with all the settings, clips in DDR's and the switcher settings ?

What do you mean ? Configuring a failover machine ?
Yes and no.
The problem is that there is a lot of productions to run during the day, and there isen't enough time between the shows to prepare on the one toaster used in the studiocontrol, so i was thinking about setting up an extra Toaster in the office where the people can prepare the next show on, load DDR's, make titles and so on, and when they have to go "on air" they just call up their project on the Toaster placed in the studiocontrol and go on air.
If we can do it that way, we can save a lot of time and money in building an exstra studiocontrol.
The 3. Toaster is a backup Toaster in the studiocontrol. If anything happens to the main Toaster we can switch to that one.

This is one way to do this...
Set up the desktop as you want to for braodcast, then in a emty space on the VT desktop you rightclick and you save the module to some preset name.. You should be able to open that module setting on every VT.. Then wgen you load the DDR with clips you rightclick and save the prject of the DDR. If the SAN has the same capital on every VT you should be able to load the DDR project.
Anyone else that has a easier way??

I think that Chribba is on the right track. I am in the process of setting up 6 VTs networked together. It is very important that each system be configured exactly the same...down to the most insignificant folder. If not, when you call a project/DDR up, you may see elements with the "red box" denoting missing info. Then you have to drag stuff back in. I would be currious though on playing footage back "live" from a central system if it could keep up the pace. You would need some "horsepower" in your network. I've elected to just pick one box as the playout system and move all the video files over before going to air. We will be using the NT25 codec for quality and it's space saving attributes.

Why not just put a simple 3 Ch. Extron Switcher in and start the day on toaster 1 then go to toaster 2 then toaster 3 finally back to toaster 1???
That way your talent can work right up to the last second on the system. If you are having to load up the desktop and everything you risk things going wrong... really wrong. All you need is a person running behind and in their rush they load the wrong file... once you press load you are commited (oh and off the air too) Then when it loads they figure out they loaded the wrong thing and bam once again loading...

Oh, one would think that if you use save there is one systematic way of saving the projects and modules...
The module is only one time save!!! Then it always is the same... Lets call it "Broadcast"... or "On The Air"... Really not that complicated..
DDR´s loading in the right order would simply be called something like "DDR20061116" if it was today... If you can remember the day or always load the last DDR project to date there would not be a problem...
