I cannot assign a reflection property in Layout's surface editor. I can change the value, but it does not actually change the surface of the object nor does it change in the Preview Window. The surface editor in Modeler works fine. I can change the value and the reflection shows up in the Preview Window, but as we all know Modeler does not actually do the final render and I am modeling a sword and I need the blade to be like a shiny silver or chrome. I had 7.5c on and I thought that that was the problem so I took LW completely off my computer and just reinstalled 7.0b. Has anyone run into this problem? Is there an option that I am missing?

You're right, the surface editor preview doesn't seem to give the feedback in Layout that it does in Modeler, nor does VIPER display ray-traced reflections.

If you don't see reflections in the render, double check your rendering options and the surface reflection options.

For Ray Traced Reflections, do you have Ray Traced Reflection turned on in the Rendering Options panel?

In the Surface Editor Environment tab, if you have Backdrop checked for reflections, make sure that you have something other than the default black backdrop.

If you use the Spherical Map option in the environment tab, you will see the display in Layout update, but the best way to check your reflections is to render a frame (F9).
