Hello All;
I need some answers before tomorrow (Thursday) morning as I am beginning a small (But important) project for work that must be done by the end of the day.

Does anyone (Or a few of you) have block diagrams for the proper way to connect the T2 ti Consumer VCR's, External NTSC monitors, etc ???

This sounds like a terribly easy task to do, but I had a heck of a time this morning getting both Input (To the Toaster from a VCR) and Output (To an external Video Monitor) to work at the same time. I want to be able to capture video from the S-Video input of a consumer VCR, and then drag the clip into TED and play it (Having the audio/video displayed on an External NTSC monitor. Both times, I want to be able to view the video on the External Monitor both while capturing, and while playing back the TEd project.

For me, it either didn't work both ways (Either Capturing and playing back), or I got a terrible echo when I tried to play back a clip that I previously captured.

Anyone know any web sites which help with connecting a system ? There must be some - in fact, there must be many.

Anyone have any documents they can email me with connection diagrams or advice?

I also have an audio question but I'll post it separately ... next.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Tim

You should not have a problem doing this.
The echo would happen if you sent the audio out form the toaster to the input of the VCR and then you attempted to capture video/audio from the vcr (using outputs on the VCR to inputs on the toaster). This causes a "feedback loop".
The solution is to connect the toaster audio out to the external monitor or to external speakers. If you must connect to the VCR, then you need to mute the toaster output while capturing and then mute the toaster input when playing back.
If you cannot see video on the monitor, make sure the toaster pref is set for "Composite or y/c" output and not "component" in preferences.
Hope this helps!

Hello All;
OK now I connected the S-Video and Stereo Audio Outputs of my consumer VCR to the corresponding inputs on T2. And I connected the Stereo Audio Output and Composite Video to the corresponding inputs of a Television Monitor.

NOW when I play a ToasterEdit project, everything works fine and I see realtime video and hear realtime audio.

However, when I capture Video from the VCR using "Capture", I don't get realtime Video. It seems when I change Switcher Inoputs between Composite and S-Video, I get a single frame. I know something is set wrong but I don't know what. This has never happened before and it needs to be working by tomorrow morning. I tried the reset configuration from Start - Toaster2 to no avail.

Any way to reset the whold T2 system and start over. I know this worked fine the last time I used it.

I know what you're thinking ... but "Timed" and "Time Lapse" are both UNCHECKED in the Capture Panel.

Hello All;
Thanks to everyone who read my request for help. I think I figured things out. I was about to uninstall and re-install the Toaster Software but before I did, I decided to try to update the core which I assume is a ROM in T2 that contains a stored program. After I updated it, the T2 seemed to work OK. Before I updated it, I seemed to only be able to capture single frames or even multiplke frames at a low frame rate so I expected that something pretty serious was wrong. So when I updated the core, I could now capture realtime video.

I am having one more problem that I never had before. When I change from TED to direct input via. S-Video, the monitor screen gradually gets real bright until the picture disappears and all I see is WHITE and I can't figure out what is causing it. This never happened before. Anyone know what may be set wrong or what may be causing this ?

Sounds like a Video Feedback problem.
Usually I get some really cool colors if I accidently feed back through my other connected edit system though.

Make sure your in's and out's are connected properly. Somehow you are getting Dejavue.

Thanks, Ted
I didn't consider that the video would have a feedback issue too but when I disconnect the Video Output (From the Toaster to the VCR), the Video problem also fixes itself.

Now everything is making sense. The one change that I made yesterday is tha I had to capture from the VCR and was also play back to the VCR. In the past, I would only have to capture from DV or HI-8 camcorders.

I think everything is working as I expect now. Hopefully, I'm good to go for today's project.

I do have one audio issue which I don't understand and will post it as a separate item in the ToasterEdit Forum. Thanks.
