View Full Version : Hang out problem between Layout and Modeler?
ok, not sure how to explain this...but here goes. For better understanding, here's my system configuration. AMD DualCore 4400+, 4gig Ram, WInXP 64bit with a Asus EN 7800GT video card. Now, LW9.0 as major issues here, when Layout and Modeler are both open, I seem to have some long hang time when switching between applications. Layout crashes a lot, specialy when closing a scene or deleted linked objects. What could be causing this problem?...
Thanks for any help.

The Hub that connects Modeler and Layout seems to causing much grief to everyone - do a search here and you'll find/feel a lot of frustration all around.
One solution being recommended is to start Modeler and Layout without the Hub by adding a "-0" swith at the end of the command.

The startup command in your shortcut (like "N:\LightWave 3D 9\Programs\modeler.exe" -c"N:\LightWave 3D 9\Config"). Just edit your shortcut to add this flag to the command.

http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56270. pages 3 and 4 refer to other alternatives, including uninstalling the sentinel drivers. interesting, because i never thought that would work. thought it was some type of piracy protection that was tied into the functionality of the program, like so many others that use the same method. will have to give this a try

Just put a space at the very end of the shortcut and then -0. It's under the properties of the shortcut.

If you right-click on the shortcut and go to Properties, you would modify your Target line like so:
To deactivate the Hub:
C:\Program Files\NewTek\LightWave 3D 9\Programs\lightwav.exe -0
To redirect your config files to another location:
C:\Program Files\NewTek\LightWave 3D 9\Programs\lightwav.exe -cC:\LightWaveConfigs\v9

I had this problem also,
Layout and modeler comminicating back and forth,
on some days it would happen, on other days, not a problem at all,
I really think it is the OS doing it,
On the days Lay and Mod would crash allot,
I noticed Layout would start up and use allot of ram, [ no scene loaded ]
and Modeler would do the same thing [no objects loaded ]
I would Minimize all the windows a few times,
and would see the ram usage go down finally.
The 2 computers I use have LW and a few other programs
The Main LW computer has "WIN XP 64 PRO" Dual Opterons,
and the OS has no Updates, I Loaded it from the CD and never updated after,
it never sees the Internet..NEVER...
and my crashing is really very few crashes...
The other Computer has Win Pro 2000, Dual Xeon's,
and the OS has been updated, and crashes all the time....
I really think the OS is More to Blame than Lightwave.......
After reading the crash reports that are sent to MS,
I see the OS did the crashing first with LW in the Mix,
The OS [Windows] is more unstable than Ligtwave by far....

Al3d, do the following:
(1) Right click your mouse on the Modeler shortcut and select "Properties" - a window will come up
(2) In the "Target" box of that window, go to the end of the text and add a space followed by "-0" - DO NOT ALTER ANYTHING ELSE
(3) Do the same thing for the Layout shortcut

as i mentioned above...if i try to do that, i get this message..

Are there quotation marks around the default entry in your target line? If so, I believe you need to add the space minus zero outside of the quotation marks.
