Here's something I began a long time ago.. I am finally getting back into it.
The style is going to be similar to claymation, imagine a small man carrying a sack sneaking up to it, hopping in and going down.
Comments and crits on the style and idea are welcome..

The blown out background bugs me a little. Not sure if it's suppose to be fog or haze, but it doesn't quite sit right.
The overall style and color palette seem like they're well suited for a cartoonish claymation piece. I really like the feel that the overall grainy finish gives to it. It seems to add age to it.
Looking forward to seeing more!
I like it alot too...for some reason though it reminds me of the tree lift in Myst....still very cool and yes it does have a good claymation feel to it...I also like the grainyness...maybe a little less though...and tone down the backround too....great stuff:)

Here's another with a lamp added.. I also made the adjustments more subtle (i.e. less noise and not so harsh white background)

For an outdoor environment, the lighting doesn't look quite right. It appears to be sunset (or early morning.) I would think that there should be an orange tint to the lighting. And maybe a little blue tint for the shadows (i.e. ambient light.)
Also, I can't really tell what's in the background. Mountains and sky? Perhaps add some color/clouds to the sky?

Thanks zander.. I wasn't really thinking about what time of day.. so I thought about sunrise and tweaked the lighting somewhat..
Much more early morning I think.. maybe some swirling ground fog would set it off.
At the moment the background is just some weird displaced plane going up.. I haven't decided on the background yet.. perhaps some cave-like wall, what do you think?

I like the feel of it now, but I keep rubbing my eyes because nothing's in focus.

The background change really brings everything out. Cannot wait to see it with a character.

for the background, how about more green hills, fading off into the distance. like the tellytubbies set i suppose.
