Hi,
I`m an almost 3 years old lightwaver, still in 7.5.
I remember I entered in Lw world in the moments of FPrime fever.
I`m watching these forums from the beginning (my lw beginning).
So, finally I decided to post here some of my work.
This image was for a cgtalk contest last year, and I finished it only this year.
The workflow can be seen here: http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=228979&page=1
For the chimp`s hair I used Saslite, 8 instances, and rendered in limited region with the default renderer.
Everything else rendered with FPrime.
C&C are wellcome.
Thanks in advance.

Nice gritty piece that one. I think I prefer it over the samuri geezers - they are done all the time, but you dont often see a beggar and his chimp entering the forums!
Nice work
very nice feel to it....good work

I have to say, the chimp looks so real and perfect, but the guy's face seems off somehow. (I've talked about this a lot other places, we see human face all the time so we expect more accuracy as viewers and they're more difficult to model becuase we are so used to seeing them all the time we have a hard time "looking" at them in the same way and somethign else we model. Most of us don't see monkeys on a daily basis (oh, but if we could:)) )
Take in mind that I'm crap for modeling humans and rather in awe of your accomplishment. I tend to avoide people whenever possible (in modeling, not in life, that would be sad:() Kudos

Yeah, the chimp is very close to photoreal. The rest of the image almost doesn't match.
Having said that, I still thinks it's a piece of inspiration. Very nice.

Lovely concept - chimp is just awesome. I also like the composition, and the way that part of the story is told in the shadows...
I think it's the old man's neck that is the main reason he looks unrealistic - and you could improve that a lot simply by hiding / darkening it with a strategic shadow.

It's the terrible lighting that's knocking everything esle out of whack here. It seems to be some sort of halogen lamp being beamed at them from behind the camera. Strange choice. Looking at the scene, you'd expect the lighting to be coming from gas street lamps.

I agree with most of the comments above, the chimp is awesome, the man doesn't do it for me. I can't take my eyes of his hands, they just don't look right. Also I agree that the lighting could use a little work.
That said it is still a great piece, I like the way you are telling a story and I like the composition. I couldn't do anything like this anyway, character modeling scares me and I am not even going to attempt it until I get some basic figure drawing skills down.

I find that remark deeply offensive. I suggest you applogise immediately for such an undeserved comparison. Chimps would be horrible upset to be compared to Dubya!

I`ve noticed almost all the c&c pointed to the beggar poor modeling mesh and some lighting issues.
I`ll have to improve those.
Thank you very much for your time and feedback.
