Hello!
I am working on my new raytraced graphics and I have problem with metallic surface. I want this surface to be used on starship cockpit but I want this metal to be matte. Maybe sobebody already has good preset used before or sobebody can tell me how to do that kind of surface? Or send preset/surface on this email: neuroup@addict-labs.org

Thanks a lot for help.
ps. If there will be still problem i can add my preview of this ray and show my problem.

One more time thx for help.

do you mean you want it to be a painted texture? Is that what you mean by matte?

no. Something like matted metal. If you have painted texture looped it will be great for me.

Have you tried looking at the metals on

www.presetcentral.com

There's some nice ones there that you might find can be modified, or used?

I think you are going to want to load the surface then play about a bit...

Matte... you could either turn down the glossyness (up to and including off), or just kill the specular... that will deal with the glossiness as well...

I have one idea. Can you tell me how to add a image to post becouse i don't know how to do it ? If you tell me i will add a screen from my ray and i will show you where is a problem. This screen will explain my problem. I think. The problem is not that i don't know how to create a metal. My problem is that i need metal who you can find on cocpit in space ship something like a command modul.

About add attach i have something like that "Maximum size: 0 bytes" and i don't know what to do ?

Preset Central has gone down, I just clicked on the link and got a dozen popup add windows. Try Luxology http://www.luxology.net/community/lwpresets.aspx

They've just added some new Presets to the collection.

Ahhhhh, I think you mean a flat, matte surface like brushed aluminium? Is that what you mean?

In that case, try using some extremely tiny bump maps (fractal noise with a 1 um size) and low, unglossy specularity, and very low reflection. I would also avoid the use of any kind of HDR reflection mapping since they tend to be pretty intense (better for chrome and reflective metals). Setting colour hilights to 100% could also help...

I would probably suggest taking a look at the preset for 'pewter' in LightWave as a starting point... :)

Unless I'm wrong here?

Kev.

As for attaching an image, just click on the 'Browse' button next to the attach file box. Select your image and then submit your reply... The image should just appear at the bottom of your posting...
