View Full Version : Character: Remi of Redneck Chronicles
This guys for a series of shorts....i'll post the animations as they're completed....any crits on this guy is appreciated...i've still got the body to work on...:)

Your character is modelled very well and looks expressive. Judging from the title "Redneck Chronicles" I would assume that the character is a redneck.
I live in Macon, Georgia and know rednecks when I see them. There's no way he could stand up with pride Jones County.
If the character is NOT supposed to be a redneck then I would say "lookin' good"
Wee bit of an update...hope you like:)

Give it a mullet (sp?).
That'll make it a redneck!
Hmmm....I thought I did....

You call that a mullet?

No really, I like the tooniness of your characters..
Did this last night...forgot to post...sorry:) Thanks for the comments...but lets not start a war on ethnicity please...if you'd like to maybe start a new thread...:)

Exactly as I said, HRGiger.
Would the thread have followed the same course had the character model been of a caracatured "African American" inner-city type, complete with oversized lips, watermelon slice and n-word reference? How about if it was an hispanic character in a sombrero laying lazily on the ground, propped up by the nearest inanimate (or slow-moving) object, again with the s-word reference? Or how about if it was a model of two effeminate looking male characters dressed in pink with feather boas, entitled "The Faq Chronicles"?
When I was growing up, the left-wingers who hadn't yet gained control of the country defended their ideology by insisting that they wished to do away with stereotypes, bigotries and prejudice. All they did once they gained control was change the socially acceptable bigotries, stereotypes and prejudice to conform with their own bigotries, stereotypes and prejudices.
I've gone into overload thinking of all the examples I've seen just recently of modern prejudices promoted by people who sneer at older prejudices. And the only difference I can see is who the targets of their prejudice are.

By the way, the model is coming along vey well. It looks a great deal like Jeff Foxyworthy, except for the gapped teeth and look of intelligence. But if you're going for a claymation cartoon look, it's a very good model. I look forward to seeing it rigged.
Please take your politics out of this thread and start a new one...i'm sure everyone has opinions...but if we could just keep them on the artwork i'd appreciate it....thanks:)
Thanks for the comment...yep i'm going for the cartoon look...thanks for the comments:)
Big improvement! The hair and teeth change his look quite a bit. He could pass for someone from Perry but he still would get beat up pretty bad in Jones County.
Polo shirts are not the fashion down here - unless you have an emblem (preferable NASCAR). Try a simple NASCAR racing number scheme on left breast of the shirt. Some razor stubble would have a definite look of believability too.

Politics has nothing to do with it.
How long do you think a thread entitled "N igger Chronicles", "S pic Chronicles" or "B itch Chronicles" would survive the moderators?
I'm disgusted with such blind double-standards.
How strange it is that people of honest feelings and sensibility, who would not take advantage of a man born without arms or legs or eyes-- how such people think nothing of abusing a man born with low intelligence.

I'm glad you can just sit back and enjoy the artwork....now go post somewhere else:mad:

You have my humblest of apologies for interfering with your expression of your bigotry.
no problem...didn't I tell you to go post elsewhere though...I don't want to chat about bigotry...and you calling me a bigot I take offense to...so please take your bottom lip, stretch it over your head and swallow....don't label me....don't pressume to know me or my beliefs...thanks
I find it odd that you can't take a cartoon for a cartoon...Do you remember the PJ's...you know the one with the Black (or i'm sorry your favorite N word) guy whos voice was done by Eddie Murphy....well if you don't ....I believe that they portrayed the lifestyle of an inner city janitor....I also assume you hated the movie Joe Dirt..maybe...so I think that what you're arguing about has been done there bud....I'm not the first...and i'm sure I won't be the last....
To everyone else....updates are going to be slow..but they are coming...i'm working on a project right now that's consuming my time....thanks for the patience

Actually, I think that B itch chronicles would be just fine, for the same reason that Redneck chronicles isn't offensive. Both of the terms n igger and s pic refer directly to ones race while ***** and redneck are more opinions. You're not born a redneck or a ***** but some people might think of you as either. Two people can argue all day about what makes someone a ***** or a redneck but it's all subjective. There's nothing double standard about Remi's posting a redneck character. Seems to me the Red and Green show did pretty well. Canadian rednecks. Funny. I also seem to remember Proton posting a big lipped black man pimp a few weeks back but I didn't see anyone getting up in arms about that one.
Sorry Remi. I probably shouldn't have responded but I think that Hiraghm is getting his panties all in a bunch about nothing. I think it's important to make a distinction between a racial slur and a social one.

Being from North Florida, I speak from experience when I say that one is indeed born a redneck! :) They don't just happen, it takes years and years of breeding.
@hrgiger...I had no idea a redneck was a racial thing...I think it can apply to anyone...sometimes I even consider myself one...:)
@uberslayre...thanks alot and yes I think hiraghm is trying to....but giger seems to be defending the content...thanks bud...:)
wgreenlee1....thanks for the examples.....indeed...if you we can't laugh at each other what's life worth living for...or should we all just walk around sulking...thanks man:)
@mattclary....thanks for the comments....they are appreciated...believe me...:)
Updates are going to be sporadic this weekend...moving....so I gotta pack and crap..sorry...but look forward to seeing something beginning of next week...thanks everyone:)

I didn't say that redneck was a racial thing. Quite the opposite in fact.

Remi, I love that character. Nice job. The mustash and the hair on the arms are killin me. If you put him in a wife-beater tshirt and he could be the guy that works the rides at the state fair!
Great work Remi!
P.S. omg did I say "wife-beater"? What is the world coming to when art and art discussions are not politically correct?

Hey thanks guys...:)
@hrgiger...I know bud...I was just trying to be funny hehe:D
@Carbon71...I'm going to make a few versions of his clothing...wife beater, overalls, and flannel. I'll be sure to post all of them. thanks:)
@chrisisbacky2k...He'll be animated alright...he's for the 10 sec club...so there'll be plenty of that coming...be on the look out...thanks:)

HR, why? Why is it so AWFUL to belittle someone because of his racial makeup, and perfectly acceptable to belittle someone because of his *cultural* makeup? The latter seems far worse, since the former contributes little to the richness of mankind, while the latter is essential to it.
Why is it so AWFUL to make fun of sexual deviants, and perfectly acceptable to make fun of someone who is of a different ethnicity? More accurately, to make fun of someone who is of a SPECIFIC ethnicity. Certainly sexual deviance isn't a matter of race.
More to the point, please list the races which can be "redneck" (or for that matter, "dumb blondes".) Bleaching the skin (like Michael Jackson) or hair (like most non-blondes) doesn't count. Only the European races can. First, the epithet immediately brings to mind poor, WHITE Southerners. Second, blacks, asians and hispanics don't sunburn much if at all, and certainly don't turn red when they do so ("native Americans" might be an exception, but they start out red...). The original meaning of "redneck" was to refer to someone of European descent who worked in the sun, after all. If you even suggest that "redneck" could refer to any other race, you should be given a room in the loony bin next to Senator Byrde who claims to have seen "white N-words".
The reaction to my objection fully demonstrates my original point; prejudices haven't gone away, they've just been replaced. People who think modern-day prejudices are non-prejudice, who think they're true or harmless, are no wiser than the people who held contrary prejudices 50 years ago, prejudices about which they felt the same way. Like a Central American revolution, we've changed nothing except who's calling the shots; who's "in" and who's "out".
I wonder how much support can be garnered for a movement to change the Washington Redskins into the Washington Rednecks? An offense to "native Americans" surely wouldn't be an offense to people as backward and base as poor, rural, white Southerners.

you know... I think i'd have to side with remi here in that nobody cares to discuss the problems of society on a 3D discussion forum.... There are other places in which to do so.
Please consider that you are Off Topic unless you've got comments or critiques that relate to the works presented in terms of what could make it better, suggestions, etc. If you are still compelled to discuss these matters of race, ethnicity, etc. then please respect the author of this thread and start your own discussion thread in the general discussion forum, or on an unrelated forum that deals directly with such issues.
Otherwise this forum is for the discussion of 3D works-in-progress, not the morals and or philosophy tied to said works-in-progress.
And with that in mind:
Remi: I like how the character is coming along... Perhaps you may be able to fit stereotype a bit better if you give him a ratty old nascar baseball cap and a dirty open flannel shirt.
Hiraghm, you make some very intersting points....none of which belong in this thread. I think when Remi asked for opinions he meant on his computer character not his actual character. You don't know him and thus can't judge him.
Remi I think he looks great and can't wait to see some animations.

Wow . . . who gives a s hit . . . this is a 3d forum, right?
Remi - dude, this is inspiring work. After I saw that you intended to use this guy for the 10second club, I went over there and downloaded the clip . . . MAN!!! you hit the nail on the head with this character. LMAO picturing your dude animated to that clip!!!
Good luck with the animation.
Peace.

Remi - Thats really looking like some Great work! He reminds me of someone, but I can't recall who - I think someone from a Sitcom? Did you base the character on anyone? (or is it just my wierd mind playing tricks on me!)
Can't wait to see a full textured version...
Sweet! :)

Ah, I think its the mullet and moustache - It reminds me of David Spade in 'Joe Dirt' for some reason... :)
Hey thanks everyone for all of the comments....I'm still going to do the animation to the original clip I had in mind...I just didn't get the model done in time so I won't enter TSC contest this month...but I plan on using this guy for that site. Thanks again for being patient too while updates are sporadic:)

That's what I was thinking. He just has to be "grubbed up" a bit. I really like the added touch of the hair on the forearms. Are you planning on "dirtying" him up? Maybe a rip in one of the jeans legs?
Don't forget NASCAR, man! He's gotta et the world know who his favorite driver is. If you put a black "3" on him, no one will complain.
Another authentic (honestly) clothing item is camouflage shirt or pants. They are always in style whether it's hunting season or not.
You should give him one or the other (preferably both) to make him really authentic. Why not NASCAR shirt and camo pants?
I like the progression that his face and hair has taken over the past weeks.
Texture Work...not finished...:)

Finally had a chance to rig this bad boy...so I made a quick pose this morning and rendered him out. The pants have yet to be textured, I was just really excited that he can move now. Going to be working on his environment. :)
Image....and oh yea.....i'm working on the deformations in the hip area...looks like his ***, d**k, and thigh are getting pulled around a little too much....

Dude, this is a great model, great character.
Killer boot texture. It's my new favorite thing ever! Better than eating a Nutty Buddy while drivin' my El Camino to Little Rock!
You are one kick-*** mo-fo, dig?
You know I was actually trying to think of a good car for him...and guess what...El Camino it is. thanks alot:)

Not bad but he's a little static. You should have him shift his weight back and forth on his feet a little. Right now, I could swear that something is hooked to the back of his pants that's not letting him move around at all because his hips aren't moving hardly at all.
thanks hr....yea I thought the same...but for 2 days I didn't think it was too shabby....if I have some time later on in the future i'll revisit the scene and make the adjustments I want...more snap to the arms in certain areas...and some more weight shifting...thanks for the critiques...I appreciate it.:)

I think Hiragrm is a damn idiot what the hell are you blabbering about you idiot you probably don't even leave you're house you dork! Leave the guy alone no one asked you a damn thing so keep your opinions to your self .....Shut up! :
Thanks for the comments...Corey..but if you want to start something like that you can PM Hiragrm instead of posting it in here....I appreciate the defending but I don't think it's needed.....this is just a cartoon and I think people understand...thanks again:)
Quick sketches on my wacom.....messed around with PS too....leaning towards doing this with kids in mind...funny but nothing vulgar...thinking about changing the name too...instead of Redneck Chronicles...maybe something like Farmin' Friends or something like that...if you have any idea and would like to share it would be appreciated...thanks again:)
