Being that I am way out of my element in dealing with video production sw and hw, I need help. I have a customer who had vt-3 and their card went bad. I figured since vt-3 might be out of production, I figured I would upgrade them with the vt-4. My question is, can they use a SX-8 with it or do they also need to upgrade to the SX-84. Any help would be most appreciated.

Umm, you aren't a dealer of these products, are you?

VT1 is vt2 is vt3 is vt4. Only the vt4pro card is different than the original framefactory board, not counting the upgrades one gets when one sends their board in for updates/repairs.

The answer is: yes.

If their entire VT3 card went bad and you are getting them a brand new card, it will be a new VTpro card.

These do work with the older SX-8's although you will lose some functionalty as the VTpro card has some added options that the older VT card did not have.

I am not a live guy and do not have an SX-8 or SX-84, but I believe the differences involved will be using miniplug jacks instead of the newer connectors for rear sound and I believe you lose preview and alpha as for I think they go thru the newer SX-84.

Please, someone step in and correct or confirm on the exacts, but I do know the VTpro and SX-84 mate better for the new options.

Hope that helped and didn't confuse.
An email or call to Newtek would really clear the air, but not sure what hours they are keeping with the holiday weekend.
