View Full Version : Hypervoxels won't dissolve

I have an animation I'm working on, and it has a hypervoxel cloud appearing at frame 177 and disappearing again at frame 201. I've keyframed the birthrate to zero at frame zero, 176, and 202, I've keyframed it at 40 at frame 177 and 201. The cloud appears and is spherical (it should be a spray)l much earlier than 177 (test renders done at frame 59 first showed it.) It behaves properly between 177 and 201.

I've also set dissolve for the emitter object on those same frames at zero and 100 percent respectively. I've even set its parent object's dissolve at zero and 100 percent on those same frames.

Anyone have any suggestions as to why this thing might be appearing before it's supposed to?

While I'm not sure if my response would be correct or not, its just a suggestion. If you have the birth rate enveloped like that, you may want to check your incoming curves on the graph editor. To keep the birth rate at 0 all the way up to frame 176, you may need to set the incoming curve to "stepped" for the keyframes at 177.

I've seen particles act pretty weird. You could play by their rules and adjust the keyframes until you get what you want, or key the HV instead

Enveloping the birth rate does just that - animates the rate that particles are born. It has nothing to do with them dissolving out at the end of their life, just how many are being born (per frame, or second, or whatever...).

To make Hypervoxels fade, apply a gradient to their opacity (or density) and link it to the age of the particles...

I found an answer... in case anyone else ever needs to know...

In the Hypervoxel control panel (under volumetrics,) just under "Object type" is a Dissolve option, which you can envelop. I did just that, and the ball disappeared, and the spray began working just about as I wanted it to.

yea!
