About polys of one side

HI!

Another basic question from a newbie (me, of course). When i model, i make polys with points and Make Pol, Weld points and use Extender but polys of one and/or two sides appear at the same time. Then i find strange things when i use Subpatch or Smooth and i´m afraid that “little” polys are the blame of these strange shapes. Can i avoid those polys? Can i eliminate them? Can i be a good modeler if i have this silly problems :D ?

I hope you can help me because i´m dying to show you my first models in Lightwave to receive your constructive criticisms.
