Syflex Cloth for LightWave is being presented at the Syflex booth, across the way from the NewTek booth. The LightWave implementation is a deformation plug in.

the two times i went over to the syflex booth, the first it was empty (well i suppose you gotta eat/go to the bathroom, etc sometime), or it was mobbed
with people - and the maya version was being shown.

the first time when it was empty, the Lightwave version was on the screen but i was too chicken <bleep> to fiddle with it :-) (but so were the other
three guys standing there. heh)

I went over there and the guy was busy talking to some chick. I ask about the Lightwave version and he just told me it works like Maya. That was about it. Not very detail, but then again, I didn't press it either.

I got a pretty good demo from the guy but his thick French? accent made him a little hard to understand. It looks very cool. He said it was like the Maya version except that it was missing a few of the envelope-able controls. But that they were coming. I haven't used LWs ClothFX much, but this seemed to be really nice. There is no calc needed. It updates in near realtime.

Good stuff. Expensive stuff.

I got a personal demo from Gerard. Syflex is easy and excellent.
I was curious about doing more than cloth, and within a few seconds, he had set up a soft body and somewhat hard body simulation.
It was fast and accurate. Can't wait for this one! Hoping we can get a demo for my Inside LightWave 9 book...

Hey Dan, you better include this plug-in with your next book:

ohhhhhh a demo of it would be nice indeed - specially as not currently a student and cant even come close to justifying it commerically

and yup including the plaugin is a good idea - makes uv unwarping so simple its funny - newtek should buy that this instant and include it - its a awesome unwrapper and FAST

I'm just careful what third party apps/demos are put into the book. People then email me, even years later for support and often I can't help. Also, the plug-in developer sometimes removes the site, or doesn't support that app any longer, etc. And, the book is about LightWave so I always try to keep it as native as possible. I've purchased books before, like After Effects, and all the really cool stuff was done with third party plug-ins that I had to buy in addition to the software. That sucked.

Sorry if gone OT.

I understand the problem involving third party plug-ins, just recently got excited with these pelting tools. It's a shame there's some obscurity about the authors, maybe NewTek could talk with them.

Not OT at all. I'm just saying we need to be very careful as to what third party stuff is included. Right now, I'm planning a lot of 3D Garage videos, and Syflex. I have to work out the details with Gerard, but I think it's a good one!

I got a syflex licence and I am using it on lightwave. The results is amazing, So fast, stable, but I got a problem with IK. It's also bas that it does not recognize 2D polys. I'd like to discuss techniques with other syflex users.
