Virtual Lightprobes

I was reading the Paper Arnie Cachelin wrote, "Image Based Lighting in Lightwave". In the paper he talked about making virtual lightprobes in LW.
I want to make some of these probes but I'm not sure exactly how to do it. I checked out Arnie's web site, Virtual Lightprobe Gallery, but it was down.

Can anyone shed some insight on making these virtual lightprobes?
