Well, it's not using any LW 9 specific features, but it's my first proper LW9 image, so I wanted to share it!
Figure is based on Daz Victoria 3, Textures are 'Dodo', it is 'Elita' hair, and the enironment is not mine either. But it was all moved from Poser to LW, and I like it!

While I am at it, here is a panoramic of her village - I did this the hard way, stitching 3 separate renders with pano software. Now to try and work out how to do it with an advanced camera...

i like the village, nice water.

Your village looks nice. Now it's time to add all the dirt and aging.
Also, i like the elf's alita hair but I prefer evita hair, you know, tied up in back in a bun like the first lady of argentina
great job really,
but i think it needs post touch.
i did some try on your image wish you don't mind.

Don J - Are you suggesting that Elves don't keep everything nice and clean and tidy?!?!
And I don't think they go for the "Marge and Tina" look either!
:D
Know what you mean, but I like the clean look.
If i want grubby realism, I can look out of the window!
:hey:
Jahn - I rather like what you did to the colour balance, how did you change it? The down side is that it does seem to have emphasized some of the image artefacts in the sky a bit...
yeah this was a rough post production of course, if sky was an seperate layer etc.
i used magic bullet look suite with a mask(white diffusion) and magic bullet look suite(curahe) plugins and some curves etc. in after effects.

Select Advanced Camera, under Ray Direction, set Horizontal FoV to Cylinder and set the angle to match what you covered in the image. That should do it.
You also might want to change the Depth Direction to Same As Ray Direction, especially if you plan on using a DOF blur plugin.
You can use the Cylindrical mode to create a nice 360 degree panorama that can be used as an enviro map. Just set it to 360 degrees, leave the vertical field of view at Same as Horizontal, and make sure you render an image that's got a 2:1 aspect. The image will be perfectly mappable every time as a spherical image map. It will also work well as a reflection image.

I think both of them are excellent. Fine work!

Thanks Dave, much appreciated!
I really think that panoramic format is woefully underused - I am at the stage where it's virtually the only kind of photos I take...

Just to 'big up' Nick for a moment.
Its worth poping over to his website to check out his panoramic photos, he brought some along to a LWUK London get-together recently - and I was really impressed by them.
Back on topic, the Seaelf is really impressive. You could try using SSS to add a degree of transluceny to the skin, but I've not tried that out yet, so don't know how it would work.

Yeah, they are schweet. I got drawn into that part of his site for quite some time.

Actually that would really sell it, it needs that to give it a better watery look.
At the moment she is a little too matte. or you could use IFW2 scales to add a odd specular hit to catch the eye.

Thanks Guys!
Panoramas are here...

The elf at the moment is actually in the simple 'arms out' pose, direct from Greenbriar. I am getting into a right mess with appliyng the poses I want, as it is actually 3 different models in one, and the export procedures do nasty things with all the UV maps. So the posed ones have haywire textures.
I am completely new to SSS, (and indeed the nodal shading), so I'm not sure where to styart with that. Would it add a lot to render times? I really need to get this animation out of the door...

OK, after a LOT of mucking about, I managed to get the figure into lightwave with pose and morphs applied.
Next stage, Animate!

nice !
can you give me a brief explanation , or site adrs for using bvh files from poser to LW ?
when i import the bvh files into LW, how do i fix ( size and movement ) with my object.
thx alot
and nice , pic's again !

Short answer is no, as I have never done that!
But I think you need to google for Greenbriar tools for Lightwave, as these will let you do this.

If you want the cheap but tricky way - get yourself a copy of Dodgy's MTL importer script, and export a few OBJ files in sequence from Poser. You can then apply textures with it, and set the objects up as a morph sequence in Lightwave.

hey I'm new in light wave.. and I dont have sasquatch.. well I do have light :P.. but did you make this hair with sasquatch, polygons or what?
starbase1

The hair, (and figures and buildings), are all imported poser objects. (Polygon based).
A couple of weeks ago they were giving away Poser 5 fror free - hope uyou grabbed it!

Maybe I should take a chunk and put it online, minus the music...

Starbase1 -
minus the music...
Is it copyrighted? I used to use copyright stuff then ran into the problem that I couldn't use any of it for business or portfolio use, hated that.
Bought a keyboard and a music composition program and tried making music myself, problem is, even in my wildest fantasies I'm no musician :help:
Instead, If I want to comp something to music I go here.

There's some terrific free work by artists just wanting a mention, and most styles are catered for :)

Evil people :D
Won't they let you show a quick anim with just a small piece of the music? Even U2 and Maddona let people do that these days :)

OK, here's a video clip. DVD Res, AVI using MS codec, so it should be fairly portable. Encoding quality is not great, but it should give you the feel.
All motion was done simply by applying the trailer plugin to the basic dragon.

OK, an explaination of how to set up a morph sequence, please?

It's in the manuals, you need to look for "multi target, single envelope".
You then set object 2 as the morph target for object 1, object 3 as the target for object 2, etc etc. The morph percentage should then swept through to animate - 100% corresponds to the second object, 200% to the third, etc.
I really must make the time to find part 2 of my 'poser in Lightwave' tutorial.

Hi,
I've been searching this forum for a way to do panoramic images, and I read this thread and decided to try and ask you for help.
I need to render a panorama that is not 360º; in fact it is really like stitching 3 consecutive frames together, like you would with a real simple camera. But the distortion that these 3 frames have on both their outer edges makes it impossible to composite them togeteher in photoshop or similar.
I am not very experienced in lw, but I would really appreciate it if someone has any suggestions for this procedure.
Thanks a lot.

I responded in a PM, but for others who may be interested...
I use PT Gui for stitching images, it is reasonably priced, easy to use, and will cope with multiple rows and small camera rotations.
I think Dave Jerrard has a thread elsewhere describing how to do cylindrical panos directly in LW 9, using the new clever camera.
