Holy cow. Splines do make sense! I started this about a week ago and im pretty close to being done with the modeling. I used splines for about 90% of the model. Splines give you so much control over the any other method i've tried. C&C please.
I hope someone can help me here. I have blades on the head of the model for a vent. I have them riged to move like Vanetian (sp) blinds. One blade per layer and saved as a seperate object. I parent the blades to the head which works fine. But I have bones to deform the head. How can I get the blades to be affected by the bones in another object, or layer for that matter? I would REALLY appreciate any help.

Thank you.
The monochiwan were in the movie THE FIFTH ELEMENT. (the gental giants) I got a hold of a divx rip of the flick and just went from there. I could not find ANYTHING on the web for reference. So this model is not 100% correct. The only thing I found on the web was how much people hated the movie. but to each there own. I can complain about Milla Jovovich running around half naked and taking her shirt of every half hour.

Hey, 3DBox...
What version of LW are you using?
"One blade per layer and saved as a seperate object" isn't necessary with a version later than about 6, I think.
I use expressions for stuff like that. Each blade follows a single channel of another object, usually a null. That way you only have the one item to keyframe. A null. I definitely wouldn't use bones.
Or you could also morph them, also only one item to keyframe.
I could post some detailed directions after work today if you're interested...
Good start on the model, by the way.
I don't care what anybody says, I love that movie!

ah yes. that makes much more sense. Endomorphs hit me later in the day, but i was sure there was another way. I have been checking out as many tuts as possible to start getting familiar with expressions as well. that sounds like the way to go. I would greatly thank you for any further details on that matter. (as well as a few other people on this forum im sure)

Hey dude!
I had to work late tonight, sorry I'm so late.
Also, the file size is way too big. Obviously I could use a "tutorial-writing" tutorial...
I guess I suck, but here's my feeble attempt anyway.
Hope it helps.

Yup, that's a monochiwan.
Not sure of the coloring, and the body is too shiny. Dirty him up a bit. (Fifth Element was "future grunge". :) )

Yeah, dirty him up a bit, but they also looked kinda wet, didn't they? Or am I just thinking of the hatchway they came out of?Guess I'll have to watch it again.
And no, they aren't German.
lookin' real good, but just what's wrong with her taking off her shirt?

LONE:
my bad. didnt get the "t" on "cant" for I cant complain about......
HIRAGHM:
I do need to start working on the textures. I just applied a basic surface for the time being. Im thinking about manually unwraping my splines and then patch them from there. kind of like the FREAK tut. Once i finish modeling the hands and feet.
LIQUIDPOPE:
thanks again for the tut.
