I threw some quick and dirty Maxwell material shaders onto the neat new Mecha and let it bake for a couple hours in Maxwell Render v1.1

ONLY a couple of hours in Maxwell? Haven't had time to test the 1.1 version, but no noise is apparent on your scene, what kind of monster machine do you have, or has the speed improvement really been that good in 1.1 vs 1.0?

Nice render, btw...

Now that robot looks complex...and a couple of hours to render??

Maxwell is actually pretty fast for single objects in exterior settings. What takes time is when you have multiple bounce interiors, or lots of glass.

Just like in other renders, basically. Exterior shots of that kind are easy-peasy for most of the time.

Cool robot.

:agree:
That must be it, I have only used Maxwell in interiors. Sure, the images are great, but it does take ages to finish in interiors...

When you call it the cool new LW9 robot...

I don't suppose it is lurking in the content somewhere???

I sure would like to find it.

Everyone's talking about Maxwell??

Who cares? The robot itself has so much creativity in its design.

The Giant Hands designed like vise-grips
The pnuematic pistons
The gears
The shin guards
The cool rivets
Its late 19th Century design (almost clocklike)
Its overall TRex look

Is that top bit where the driver is supposed to sit?

Anyway - my hat is off to Voidmonster's inspiration.
He was definitely in the zone when he designed this juggernaut.
:beerchug:

So why isn't this in the gallery on your website????

That's one monster robot you have there.

Looks great. Try to mimick it with a LW render to see how close you can get and how comparable the render times are.

I didn't design the robot. According to the LW9 Content Index, it's by Nicholai Kropat. It's in the Lighting directory of the LW9 content. A mere 800,000 polygons. I just stuck Maxwell materials onto it (and merged about 10 objects with 5-6 layers to make the material assignment go a little quicker).

I highly suggest everyone check their LW9 content and look at that beasty. It's truly awesome.

My system isn't hugely beefy. Athlon X2 3800 with 3 gigs of ram.

If someone else wants to try and replicate the Maxwell look in LW and see how long it takes, they're welcome to (the robot should be in everyone's content directory), but it's not something I've got the time or interest to do.

Well - all my design kudos are hereby transfered to Nicholai Kropat.

Sorry for helping this become partially a maxwell discussion. It is just that the robot looks so nice, I assumed it had taken ages to render. Kudos to Nicholai Kropat. And voidmonster for restoring my faith in maxwell rendertimes

I always find that lw content stuff so weirdly organised... like, I want a directory with "Content/Objects/Cool robots"... who ever expects that to be in the lighting directory?

Yes, the content does seem to be a bit of a lucky dip. I suspect it reflects what the person sumbitting thought was interesting...

Anyway, as we are mucking about with the content, I render the cool new robot (In Lightwave), adding some ground fog around his feet.

Incidentally, this robot is a good example of how more could be done with content.

There's some very nice surfaces there - it would be very useful, particularly for those new to lightwave, to gather up these surfaces in the preset shelves...

Hey I'm working on a robot like that right now, is it possible you could zip that file and post it for those of us too broke to upgrade to V.9
