I'm just about to upgrade my graphics card and I'm aware that a quadro card is reccommended for getting the most out of Lightwave's OpenGL support.

The thing is, I'm on a tight budget. Am I better off with something like a Quadro fx q4 500, or would I be better served putting the money into a gaming card as I've done in the past like a geforce GT6600?

I faced this question last year and decided on a GeForce 6800GT. I'd say if you *need* the Quadro for your work, then you should get it...that said, the 6800GT card has been terrific for me and the price was very reasonable. Overall, I'm very happy with my decision.

Hope this helps!

I have 2 Quadro FX 1400’s in my machine and love them! But if you are running on a single monitor, and are on a tight budget, a good gaming card will do. I have 3 monitors and could not imagine going back to 1 but if I were only running 1 what I have would be major overkill even using SLI.

a gforce is Very near the same level I have a Gforce 6800 on one machine and a Quadro fx 1400 on my main 3D machine

I can't really see that a Huge differents in any app Lightwave, messiah, XSI, Zbrush, modo etc..

the Quadro feels alittle faster but not = to the price I paid for it..
but I'm running a single 24' wide screen on the Quadro
and Dual 21' crc's on the Gforce ...so that also may have something to do with it.

Thanks guys,

You've confirmed my suspicions. I think I'll stick to the cheaper alternative for now.
